Hello everyone, I'm new here and the proud owner of a 2004 XC 800. Can anyone give me a good set-up for fast trail/lake running? I'm new to polaris, how is the jetting on these motors? Are they pig rich from the factory? How about the gearing? Are there any small mods that really help this motor? I want to keep the stock appearance. Sorry for all the questions. Excited to rip on my new ride.

For lake running, keep the stock gears. Gut the airbox, and go to 430 mains. Stock helix, with a red/dk. blue, 10-70 weights, and almond/blue works well. A team 420720 helix is better, but the 70 gram weights may be too much. Verify the usual clutch alignment, carb throttle cable adjustment for WFO, and track tension is very important.

Yeah, what Pockets said. Only thing mine won't pull the weights went with 68g. The SLP airbox mod was a big improvement on getting to top end speed.

for fast trail, gear down to 25-42, 68 weights, almond blue, 420720 helix
with a black spring.
Stock setup i run 111 mph in 1/4 mile
with this trail setup it went 108 in 1/4 mile, but pulls way harder.
Also had a tempaflow, gutted box.
Have fun !!
