Alaskan_awd
Hey guys, I am new here and need some help, I have been out riding with friends the last couple years a few times and realy want to get a sled this year. I have always been into hard core 4wheeling and I want to get into the fluffy stuff. I am not sure where to start though. I want a good all around sled, probably more towards Mountain/deeper Snow so I guess a mid - long track but how long would you recomend.

I want to get a newer used sled as I only want to spend <=$4,000. Could you guys give me some suggestions as to what machines to look at. I am fine with Polaris, Arctic Cat, or Ski-Doo.

Thanks,

Cameron

BTW. If any of you get on AKMS, NASIOC, or ATV Frontier I am Alaskan_awd there also.

the RMK from joe321....good starter sled
Alaskan_awd
I would like something a little newer then that, I was hoping for something around a 02-03. I could always get a new one, but thats all I need is another loan haha.

I've got an 02 Polaris indy 500. 238 miles and immaculate condition.
Let me know if you are interested.
SirCATchAlot

^^^ that is a sweet sled and gotta love the fuel injection, And John takes excellent care of his stuff :div20:

Think my next sled will probably be GREEN :div20:

I may have found an 03 F-7 Sno Pro for $3500, how do you like your sled SirCATchAlot?

I thought you said you were looking for a longer tracked sled? The 13.5 wide tracks are not known for being too great off trail.

agreed, if you want to hit the fluffy you had better stay away from an F7
joe231
all depends on how big a guy you are, firecats do alright in the deep. But true as a beginner you probably want more floatation dunno.gif
Alaskan_awd
Yeah I'll take your guys's advice, I am about 6'1~2 and 177lbs. Any way what do you guys think about these sleds: an 02 700 RMK w/ 144x2" track for 3.5k, a 2002 Summit 700 for 3.5k, and a 2002 Ski Doo MXZ 700 Renegade for 3.5k. They all have extras except the MXZ.
joe231
well the mxz is a short track? I would cross that off, unless you are gonna do alot of river running? so just left to preference between the poo and doo. How long is the Summit track? I personally think the 136 is a pretty good all around track length up here. dunno.gif in a perfect world I would have 2 sleds a long track for the powder and a short track for trails and river, 136 is kinda right in between. just my $0.02. what's a matter you don't want a good mountain cat?
FirecatF5SP
The Firecat and MXZ are trail sleds. Though the F7 can be taken off the trail and does pretty well It's not made to go extreme mountain climbing. Helps if you have the 1 3/8 track or a larger lug has been put on. The thing is a rocket down the trail. It all depends on where your going to do the majority of your riding as to what you should get.

Asking price was a little high IMO for an 01.

I cant figure out how to edit posts on here so I will have to quote you again, the Summit track is also a 144"x2" and the MXZ Renegade has a 136" track I think.

dunno.gif this forum is kinda wierd, it combined my last 2 posts. :frech32:

136 for length, 1 3/4 - 2 inch lug rider forward if you can find a sled like that go with a renegade if you can find one you like, best all around sled in my opinion. you can add all the extras you want as you ride more and decide what style you want to ride. ( freestyle, ditch bangin, hill climbing) :beerchug:
Alaskan_awd
What would you guys consider a safe amount of miles on a machine, the Renegade has 1300 miles.
Clayton
An 02' Gade is not rider forward. It's the older style chassis. 1300mi is pretty low for an 02. Anyone who rides alot will put on more miles than that in a year.

did you look at this one?
Rokmonanoff
Most of the sleds you are talking about sound decent for what you are talking about doing. In general, look for something with 2k miles or less, 136-144, and look at the sled in person. You could find a sled with 6k miles that is still in sweet shape, where one with 1.5k miles might be cashed out already.

I wouldn't go over 144 because it will be tough to ride on the trail. Just keep doing your homework. You're on the right track...
