Full Version: Modifying 06 Skis to the same as 07
HCS Snowmobile Forums > Snowmobile Forums > Polaris General Discussion > Fusion/IQ chassis

Fuse6
Has anyone modified their stock 06 skis by drilling the mounting hole BACK & LOWER like they have on the 07.

Was looking at an 07 today at the dealers. Looks like the rubber block below the ski mounting is thinner to allow the ski to come up higher.

I don't see why we can't redrill the 06 skis and replace the rubber block with the 07 rubber or may be able to trim the stock rubber down.

Is the ski spindle identical on the 06 & 07.

My machine is still tucked away in the shed but I'm sure someone has already done this.

I was thinking the same thing, but I think I'm first going with holz spindles.

I called them they sd it reduces steering effort by 30-50%.

If I dont get enough I was looking at doing the same also shaving the rear keel on the ski.

did any of you try adjusting the frt shocks and adjust the rear scissor blocks I did that to mine and it steers great.I bought stud boy shaper bars hopefully it'll steer like it's on rails

I went to the dealer and he said the only way to get the steering effort down was to buy Holz or buy a new sled which I dont want to do.

He said the steering post has two turns in it and the way the post is angled makes it very hard to turn.

That may help but it sounds like to me you change the spindles to make a real difference

I think your dealer is full of shit. He tells you that the problem is in the steering post yet putting holtz spindles on will cure it? or buy a new sled?
Sounds like a typical answer from a know-nothing dealer...
Take Dragon)(R's advice from a post or two previous. Also install the shaper bars.

I havn't looked at my fusion skis yet, but my dealer showed me on an 06 550 classic that it could possibly be done. The classis has a boot in which the spindle sits it. YOu would have to trim back the rear of the "boot" so that the spindle could still fit down in the ski.

I talked to Holz racing and said the samething the angles is not right especially turning right

he explained it's like a windsheild wiper and your pushing the whole ski across the snow and their spindle changes the angle and makes it 30% to 50% easier to turn money back guarenteed

So that's what I'm going to do

I would go to your dealer (If they know what's going on ) and asked them cause they made completely different stearing post and how its configured

The spindles are the same fro MY06 to MY07. I looked at drilling the skis and there was not enough material so I put the new ones on. I also rocked the back of the keel a bit. The ski rubber is in fact different. This I got from the dealer. From what I understand it put less pressure on the rear of the ski.

For my steering (on the 900) I have loosened all of the bushings on my post and added a bit of powdered graphite and tightened them up. This gives you lower friction and better alignment. I have lubed the snot out of the universal joint and every ball joint (every riding season).

I was looking at the spindles that were on a sled at my dealer, they must have been first gen as the back of the spindle wasn't milled out so the spindle hit the A arm .

The spindles are the same its the angle of the spindle :frech32: The new skis are made from different material, but I'm going with holz it saves two pounds and shaving the back of the ski

I like the idea of the powered graphite and lubed a ton

I decided to use the Holz spindles. They were the same price as a set of skis w/carbide. Plus they have that "Bling" factor. :div20:

Can someone link me to these spindles? Did a search and couldn't find them on the net.

All the documentation I have access to tells me the front end is unchanged from MY06 to MY07 except for the skis on the performance sleds factory equipped with single runner skis. These MY07 single runner skis are called IQ2 skis, with the relocated hole for the ski mounting bolt.
