:beerchug: Hello all I am running a 1999 ZRT 800 with a set of 900 Tcat Jugs on it. I bought it this way and am trying to dial it in properly without burning it down.It has 370 main jets and stock needles& pilots.
It has the stock 1999ZRT 800 reedsd in it right now.I just picked up a new set of 2002 Tcat stock reeds. I can see the reeds and cages are the same but the stoppers for the reeds are open quite a bit more than the 800 ones.
The sled runs rich as it is set up now.I want to use the Tcat 1000 reeds as I think they will flow better.
I am also wondering about the main jetting.
Is anyone out there running a similar set up?
If so what are you at for jetting and possibly even your clutch setup??

I want to dial it in but don''t want to burn it down.
I know I am up against the 99 flatslide carb issuues but thats what I have so I need to make the best of it.

Thanks for any help given.

Do you know if it's running rich in a certian area or all over the power range? the reeds are fine imo...probably put a set of vforce in there....you can drop a size in the mains, and test it, see if the plugs are good. then play with the airscrews and what not. I dont know if black magic has tuning notes for this or not. might want to call them. or, there is a guy called catmaster on this site. he's a "cat master tech" he might be able to answer your questions better.....

All cat triples take the same reeds. Check any aftermarket catalog. Reeds arent a tuning devise, so install the ones you want and start tuning the carbs. 800's use the same case as the 900's so you really dont have anything out of the ordinary. You have a 900 triple. flatslide carbs are what you want to have ,they work very well. just make small changes at a time and you will find the proper jetting. You didnt say how rich it was running.............keep us posted, we will try to help...........tigger

Thanks all . The reed petals and cages on the 800 stock are the same as the 1000 but the stoppers on the stock ones allow the reed petals to open more on the 1000 ones. They are different part #'s and allow the petals to open more.
These are stock ones not v force.
I am trying to find out if the 1000 ones will flow too much fuel and air and make my rich problem even worse.
I intend to slowly drop down in main jet size but was looking for some exhisting setups from others that may be running the 900 jugs with 1999 flatslides.
Why try and receate the wheel if others have a good setup?
Thanks for the repl's and I hope to see some more.

I had a 1999 zrt992 last year and I know what your up against. First of all, are you running your stock pipes. If so it won't run right without aftermarket pipes. My buddy had a 1998 zrt1035 and he ran stock pipes no problem. I tried on mine and it wouldn't rev over about 7500rpm. With D&D 1000 pipes it ran awesome.
Secondly, (not to discourage you too much) the only way I can possibly see to get that thing jetted correctly is to buy a set of EGT's. It took me literally two winters (with EGT's) to get mine dialed in perfectly. When I did finally get the jetting dialed in, I was running three different size main jets and two different size pilots. That combination put all the exhaust temps within about 30 degrees of each other, and about 1290 degrees at WOT. The common fuel rail can't deliver a large enough supply of fuel to allow you to run one size main and/or pilot jet. When you get two cylinders running right and you want to get the third one a little leaner, it throws the other two out of whack. Mine had a bad "hot spot" at about 50 mph. If I wasn't careful the temps would climb way over 1300.
Third, the 1000 reeds won't make any difference. As long as they aren't broken or freyed you are fine. If you are running the stock pipes, you probably can't get rid of the air in the engine now. The only thing aftermarket reeds will do is make it a little more snappy out of the hole. You can spend the money on them if you want to but I don't think that is your problem.
When you get all the cylinder temps running that close together it sounds like a sewing machine, and oh yeah... it hauled ass. Then of course I sold it.
