the blur
I currently have a 2001 classic touring 2 up.
I am looking at a 2005 Edge touring 2 up.

Which one rides better?
I'm looking for a cush cush ride.

Also, I know my 2001 inside out. I redid the carbs. I know the suspension well.
Will the computer age stuff baffle me with the 2005 edge??

Give us some clues.

In 2005 the Trail, 600, 800 were all on the Edge Touring chassis.

They all had the Polaris M-12 hybrid rear suspension with a combination of the M10 torque arm geometry and rear sliding/couplling blocks and the Xtra-12 upside down V coil over shocks with hair springs.

clues:
my 2001 2 up has the M-12 suspension.
the 2005 I am looking at is a 600 edge 2 stroke, 2 up.
I don't know anything about the edge suspension.

I just want to know if it rides as well as my 2001 M12?

Your 2001 has an Xtra-12. The 2005 600 Touring has an M-12. It is a much better rear suspension, although it does require adjustment when the rider weight changes, to get the best ride. The handling from the Edge IFS (with CRC) is an improvement over the GenII front end, which does not have the rack controlled or CRC no bump steer arrangement.

I had a 96 and a 98 500 Classic Touring with the xtra 12 and now have a 2005 600 Edge Touring with the ACE (electronically adjustable) M1o. The 600 edge rides considerably better than the xtra did but that could be at leats partially due to the ACE. My wife has a 04 550 trail touring with the std long track M-10 and she really likes it even better than the other Classics did. As someone else said, the key to the M-10 is to dial them in for the specific weight of the rider. Most people run their suspensions way too hard. My rule is that if I do not bottom out a couple times during the day, it's too tight. You won't go wrong with an edge...especially the long track touring version.

Take a look at either the 600 Edge Touring w/ACE (it must be the 50th Anniversary model, I put several thousand miles on mine), or the 04 550 Trail Touring and when you see the upside V of coil over shocks and a Hair or Torsion Spring, as well, you will realize that you do NOT have an M-10 suspension. I mentioned this in an earlier post of mine. The first Polaris factory equipped with a 136" true M-10 are the 2006 IQ Touring sleds. I own one of these too.

The Edge Touring all had the Polaris M-12 hybrid rear suspension with a combination of the M10 torque arm geometry and rear sliding/couplling blocks and the Xtra-12 upside down V coil over shocks with hair springs.

These are very good riding sleds with reasonable handling. The comfort for two adults is outstanding.

GaryinWI,

A good way to check your facts on Polaris sleds is to use the specifications page on PolarisMan.com

The 2000-2002 600 Tourings in the Gen II do have the CRC front end with Rack type Steering. All other Gen II Tourings have Extra 12 front ends. The 600's handle much better than the other Gen II Tourings. I have a 01 500 and just got rid of the 00 600 after 11,000 miles.

What made you think Polarisman.com was closing down?

You are right thru the 03 600 Tourings, having CRC and a Gen II chassis.

For some reason, I thought the original poster had a 2001 500 Classic Touring.
