I have a 2001 XCSP 600X and just bought a polaris roller secondary online. What is a good setup for this sled that has vforce 3 reeds and a hot seat clutch kit in the primary? The roller secondary came with an R12 helix and a Green/Black spring. Could I run that setup in the secondary or is there a better setup to go along with the other mods I done to the sled?

thats sounds like you bought a E.R. roller secondary, does the helix have notched cut out of it.

IMO throw that spring away, use a sil/blue polaris, or try a epi orange, you can still use the r-12 helix its drilled to fit the old stlye spring,, the green/blk is a compression type only spring

it will also eliminate the perc clunk, that goes with ER.

It came assembled so I haven't taken it apart yet. I just got it in the mail today, so I don't know if it has a notched out helix? But it doesn't look like a team secondary that's for sure. Do you think it would still be better than a regular button secondary?
Xc Special
if you havent disassemblied it , be careful. you wont hold be able to hold the helix down ,IF you can get the snap ring off, need a spring compressor to do it proper,,
theres 198 lbs pushing on it,
its not a team,, its something polaris THREW together for perc

guys that had the 01 800s seem to like the roller[it came stock]on it,

as i said, lose the green/ blk,, there is only 3 springs available for that clutch and 1, maybe 2 helixs for that clutch as is,

Thanks for the replies Xc special. It helped me understand what I am dealing with now.

If it's a standard Polaris roller like the 01 XC8 came with it's a good clutch. Basically the buttons were replaced with rollers for less friction. You can use any Polaris secondary spring(factory or aftermarket) and there are quite a few helixes out there. The stock R12 sucks in my opinion. Small progressive portion then a straight 36*. I ran button style helixes in a few 01 XC8s and they worked great. I was told that you shouln't because the contacts were in different places. But after testing quite a few button helixes in the roller they appeared to be the same.

The first thing to do would be to determine what clutch you actually have.

Does the clutch look like the one on your sled, or does it look alot different. If it looks the same it is a Polaris roller secondary. If its different its a TEAM. It sounds like a Polaris secondary. Hot Seat has the best selection of helixes to choose from, not only different angles, but also different angle progression for the Polaris roller.
Xc Special
yup, polaris roller for ER,
if you want to useit the way its set-up, i have a stiffer spring and a slp 50-34 Full progrresive roller helix for it

What are the angles of the r12 helix?

What are the angles of the r12 helix?

50 / 36, and not a full progressive. It has 50 degrees for about 1/4 of the shift or less then transitions to a 36 degree for the last 1/2 or so.

Hey, huclbuck. I will give you a setup that will work AWESOME with that exact clutch and helix in your sled.
My brother had a 2001 XC 600, (basically the same thing as yours), and this setup worked great. I had a Polaris roller clutch off of my 2001 XC 800 with a stock R-12 (50/36) helix. He used the Polaris roller clutch (which you already have) and the R-12 helix (which you already have) but used a Polaris silver/blue secondary spring in the clutch.

Now to the primary clutch. Put in a Polaris almond/red primary spring and 60 gram Polaris flyweights. Engagement will be a little high, but nothing crazy.

Gearing, drop one size on the top gear. from a 23 tooth to a 22 tooth.

Jetting, if you are close to sea level, drop the mains from 430s to 410s.

With that setup in his sled, it was an absolute APE out of the hole. Would many times clip my XC 800 in short drag races, and was an absolute HOOT in the trails. Very quick shifting, and more fun than be described. Brought a smile to my face every time I hit the throttle.

Trust me, try this setup in that sled. You will not be disappointed!

Thanks for the advice rtoner70, i will try that setup.
