I had purchased a SLP Airbox for my 2005 900 ConFusion there late september, But i dont like how it works for some reason,..

I plan on keeping the bottom peice of my box but where it connects to the clutch cover part of the box with the rubber boot... Make a adaptor to use a K&N style filter... Will this work and not restrict airflow or let too much in ?

Ill draw up some sketches on CAD and put them up tonite...

CompFusion? Anything to add ???

I hope it works cause that's pretty much how I did mine, it idles about 2000 rpm when you first start it for about 15 seconds like it's lean then settles at 1650- 1700 and stays there.

Sounds like you're gonna try and fab up a Timbersled style intake?? I would be concerned with the amount of warmer air being trapped under the hood. The engine will make better power with colder outside air provided the ducting to get it in there is not too restrictive. The SLP (and Dubs) box draw air from the openings under the bumper and in the front suspension area. I like the theory behind the Fire & Ice intake as it draws air from the stock location but the material and looks don't do it for me..
I can see a DIY project coming later..grinning-smiley-023.gif

Quick question then....I have no problem with the fabrication required to install the SLP. However, the simple installation of the Timbersled (and the fact that its cheaper) is attractive.

Would I be better off in the long run with the SLP?

IMO, out of whats available I think Dubs might b the choice especially when it comes to ease of install...

Thanks, I'll check'em out!

This was a very easy install and i couldn't be happier :div20:

It's my understanding that Polaris completely reworked the intake on the "07 RMK900 to draw air from the front and sides. Too bad they never released the sled. They probably could've made a fortune selling retrofit intake kits.

Fusionpride,

Can you tell us any details on your intake system? I would like to know about the filter and how you fabricated/machined the flange for the intake and clutch cover.

Thanks.

The filter and snowguard cover are K&N with a 10 deg flange angle for hood clearance, I made the base for the plenum out of 1/16" sheet steel and welded exhaust tubing to it for a flange, ultra black silicone and the stock rubber band to seal it. The clutch cover is 1/2" UHMW with aluminum on the ends.
Check out the K&N site they have alot of different size filters that would work alot better, I got mine from HPE, not many size choices.
I'm sure this filter will pull some heat but it does sit right behind one of the hood screens so it should get alot of cold air.

Fusionpride,
Thanks for the info. Would it be to much to ask for some closer pictures of the actual intake plate you made? Also, what is the size of the filter you bought and what would you have gotten from K&N if you would have bought directly? I have seen their site and they do have a ton of options. It is hard to tell what size will fit properly and your input would help me a lot.

Thanks again.

Hope this helps, this plate don't have the flange welded on, I made a couple of them to try some different flange angles but I think the first one will work ok.
The filter is #RU1460 2 3/4" flange 4" dia. 5" length. It has a 10 deg angle and I also had to angle the steel flange to keep the filter out of the hood. A shorter filter would be better but you can't go much wider because of the exhaust (the shorter you get the wider you get), oval shape or one with a offset flange would be good.
