Looking on where to hook the wires up for an electric shield. I do not have electric start so can't hook up to a battery.
Pictures would be awesome if possible or a detailed description.. Haven't worked on this sled yet (2004 600xcsp)

I've owned the same sleds...still have my 05....my buddy showed me how to wire a heated sheild cable to the voltage regulator harness connector. There is an extra plug from the regulator you can connect to....its in back of the secondary clutch side of the foot well.

You can always hook the visor into your hand or thumb warmer wiring if you don't have and actual hook up. Done that with new and old sleds.

had a conversation with the local dealer on this topic last Saturday for my 02 xcsp 700. There is an extra "hole" in the plug coming out of the voltage regulator (yellow wire) that will take a bullet connector (I believe it is a .177" diameter connector, not the .156"), and hook the ground to the vol regulator mounting stud. The vol reg is located where too slow indicated.

Any yellow wire for power, brown for ground. It's that simple.

What ever you do....don't run one of the sheild wires to a grounding point on the chassis itself....you will pop the voltage regulator.. :banghead: ..i've done it myself to these edge chassis..shorted that sucker right out.. :banghead: ..they are not wired like older polaris models. My buddy caught the problem and instructed me to use the brown wire also along with the yellow to wire the sheild....says the edge has a seperate circut to ground.

I found the harness. Why can't I use the brown wire in the harness for the ground? So I would use 2 bullet connectors, one for the positive (yellow) and one for the negative (brown).

I'm not sure (don't see why not), and now am a little spooked about the grounding advice I got from the dealer after reading tooslow's post. I'd much rather use the plug than a 3-M connector where the insulation gets cut. Any other thoughts on this?

I hooked mine up to the regulator.Yellow berrel for pos. and the brown ground i put a sodderless eyelet on and hooked it up to the mounting bolt of the regulator.Have had it on 2002 xcsp for 3 years with no problems. :div20:

Brown is the chassis ground. All the same . Shouldn't make any differfence.

Yes the brown wire is fine to use for ground....some guys including yours truly put a wire lug on the sheild wire and screwed it directly to the chassis...poof shorted regulator soon as i started the sled up.....this is not the same ground point as the brown wire. I was told the brown has its own path to the stator connections and is not what you'd refer to as chassis ground.

I spliced into the yellow wire already and wrapped the wire around and taped it up. Just to confirm, you are saying its ok to splice into the brown wire of the same connector and use that to connect the black wire of the heated shield cable? That makes it real easy to tap in and not have to run wires in different directions.

Well, I pipped into this thread 'cause I thought I had some info that would be helpful, but now I'm confused! LOL Is it OK to attach at the vol reg mounting stud, or is this not good? I think i'm seeing that it is, and it is not....

Yep....thats the wires our buddy recommended except he got me a harness with those special size bullet connectors already made up to make it look factory installed. What ever you do...don't hook the blk sheild wire to any regulator stud thats tied directly to the chassis frame...ake bulkhead...footwell...etc or you will be buying a new regulator. The older gen2 and wedge chassis no problem...edge is different.

Thanks.. i'm just going to splice directly into the brown wire of that spare harness, tape it up, and put it back in place.

Just some advice if you run into visor issues. I had a lot (5 now) of heated visors that worked/didn't work on and off. Last year I installed a small LED in the visor, so I knew when there was power inside the shield.
What I found last winter was that the cords to the visor are touchy, and would go bad. I could move the cord around and the LED would go on and off. I went through two cords... and have found one that works now.
Just a heads up. Wish every heated shield had this $3 add one to confirm the power supply is getting to the shield where it needs to be.
