New on here so please be gentle. I have an 00 zr 800 and have a chance to upgrade to an 04 F7. I am a performance junkie and I am afraid I will miss the power of the 800. I know they say the F7 is 140 HP just like my 800 but I am unsure. ANy comments/thoughts would be welcome.

I didn't think the 800ZR came out till '01? Is that an early release?

That's what I thought but my tag (regi) says 00. It is one or the other. I bought it late last spring used for a deal. I am 37 years old and have been riding my entire life. Don't do much trail, mostly powder bashing, ditch banging etc. I live in MOntreal, Canada so snow is usually plentiful. Concerned with acceleration, top end and powder abilities of the F7. I have to date been impressed with the Zr's but more is always better.

No such animal as an 2000 ZR800. I don't recall any early release either. That being said I don't think you will notice any power shortage with the F7

Just called in the serial number to the dealer, you are all correct, it is an 01 I can't fathom that an F7 will kill the ZR!! How about in powder and such? Trails? The track is much skinnier than the ZR, does not make it unstable in the turns? Only a 40 pound diff in the two, how is the F7 so much faster. I hear guys doing 110 -113 MPH withtheir zr's stock , yet most F7's are doing 107-109. Are you guys talking top end or drags? And thanks to all by the way. Great message board.
Bingo since you have the numbers handy check with the dealer there was a free piston update for that year. If the snow is hard depending on set up the F7 is going to out run the 8 most of the time. The F7 takes more body english than an 8 to handle on the trails. In the powder and hills the 8 has the advantage and runs cleaner due to the intake on the F7

You'll need to be on top of your game if you want to stay ahead of the 04 F7. Clutching changes of the 7 from the 03 models is sure to be even better than the 03's.
