:help: We have a group of 6 who are trying to plan a trip in Vermont over New Years. We will trailer from Ottawa and drop in Vermont. Can anyone provide accomodation and riding recommendations? Also, will there be snow and groomed trails?

The northeast corner of Vermont (NEK) got upwards to 3 feet of snow this past weekend. The trails are scheduled to open this next weekend (actually Monday Dec. 15th). I would suggest heading towards Canaan for typically better/wider trails. Jay (one the moderators here) might be able to give you a number for a motel he uses in Canaan. The Northland Restaurant usually has a good time New years night. There's also Derby, VT. Alot of people stay at the Border Motel or Super 8. But it's sloppy getting out of Derby by sled. I'm sure The Cow Palace (in Derby) will have a kick-ass party that night! I'm going up Sunday night to check out the trails Monday. Should have a better idea of trail conditions after that. I can't imagine I'll be disappointed. Good luck with your trip!

Thanks for the info Mike, that is great. I am going to pull out the map and see if I can locate the places that you have mentioned. I will also try and get in touch with Jay.

Ryan,
Try this link. Its got a bunch of Northeast Kingdom area accomodations.
When I go, I usually stay at Maurice's Motel. Nice, clean, small (9 rooms) motel and the owners are great people.
Good Luck.

Just my opinion, but I live in Vermont and I go to Canada for that week because it is so crazy down here.. Trails are usually trashed because of the traffic.
