i checked over everything that i could think of, but still the lights on my trusty old elan do not work.
does the battery need to be charged for the lights to work?
what else should i check?
the light bulbs good, wiring looks fine, played with the switch, what else?

I am amsuming the fronts and the rear are out. Not sure if you have done this yet as indicated by your post, but you need to get a mulitimeter (or voltage sensor for $3 bucks at any car parts store....checks for the presence of voltage...one side connects to ground, the other to the circuit) and start backwards. Look for voltage at the light.....if none, go back to where the harness connects....trace back until you get to your coil.
I had the same problem before. Traced it back to a fried connection on the coil. Resoldered>>>bright lights.
