I recently picked up a '78 TXL from a guy who said it keeps flooding. I got it home and rebiult the carbs with new needles and seats and rebuilt the fuel pump. After burning all the gas out of the motor, I let it run for awhile. the engine sounded pretty good, but there is still fuel in the pulse line, and the mag side plug stays wet(changed plugs). Compression is even and it fires on both cylinders. My question is can a fuel pump be bad even after a rebuild? Could it be water leaking into the cylinders? I know the carbs are fine...they are not overflowing. Any advice on what steps to take would be appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

Assuming that you did the carbs right I couldn't imagine where else the fuel is coming from except the fuel pump. I've never heard of this happening but maybe the casting has a crack or a diaphram has a hole or tear. I'd drop the $5 for a rebuild kit or buy a new fuel pipe just to rule it out. I wish I had a definate answer for you. Let me know what it turns out to be. :frech32:

It was the fuel pump. But the guy I got it from had a non vented gas cap on the sled, it was pushing gas right through the pump to the carbs. Doh!!!
I had her running for about 15 minutes yesterday...she sounded nice.

There should be a gas tank vent, most sleds don't vent the cap, as water/snow could enter, check under the hood for a 1/8 ID vent line from the tank.

All my 70ish plastic polaris gas tanks are vented through the cap. I know the newer Polaris tanks had vent lines.
