OK, so I'm new to the whole GPS thing. I recently purchased the Garmin GPS60csx and love it so far. I heard that buying the TOPO map really does not show the snowmobile trails as advertised and to get the US Trails Snowmobile maps instead. SO I fork out the $99 for the New England maps. I open it up and I'm like, "OK, what did I just spend the $100 for? Granted there are quite a few trails listed but I was sadly disappointed in the area that I love to ride in. I usually stay in THe FOrks in ME at the Northern Outdoors. This map does not show ANY of the Northern Outdoors trail system. Only the IT trails. It does not list many of the gas stations that I KNOW exist. What a big disappointment.

Anyhow, get this....they do have a link off of their map to the Northern Outdoors website to get their map. Now this map is way more detailed but is not a GPS map. Here is my question. How can I make this N.O. map into an accurate GPS map, possibly incorporating it into the US trails GPS map??

Here is the link: Northern Outdoors Trail Map

Help-suggestions... dunno.gif

Thanks in advance! :div20:

I was gonna suggest open the jpg map in OziExplorer...calibrate it...trace the trails...save the created track file...open in GPS Trackmaker...save as .gpx file

You could then use the .gpx file in Mapsource and upload the tracks (trails) to your GPSr.

To make it accurate you would need to know the datum of the jpg trail map and trace the trails very carefully.

Another option of getting the trail tracks is to contact the local club and see if they used a GPSr on their groomer or if any members recorded the trails.

And you could make your own maps for GIS data if your state has it available.
