hey all, i was loking to port the cylinders on the king and was wondering if anyone has specs that they would be wiling to part with or templates that they are done with. not interested in getting someone to do them for me. the cases are cut and i have jaws pipes .the carbs are getting oval bored as well.i have evened up the squish on all cylinders to 85 thou. its primarily a trail rider with the occasional lake race radar run etc.thanks

RaceLogic Templates, they are cheap, "easy" to use and will give you a good power boost:)

Yes, they are....however there are some exact measurements to do on the exhaust ports and you'll unleash some power!! Don't ask me what they are...but I am sure someone knows..... :div20:

at what rpm is that good for green thunder?. with my .85 squish and a 2 degree key the sled would violently detonate at anything over 3/4 throttle even on high test. never got a chance to run it without the key but i did loosen the pickup and moved it as much as i could but it still wasnt enough.i was hopeing some one had a set of templates they were willing to part with.

I dont think the 99 needs a timing key..but 00+ does. Also, I wonder what CDI you have? There is a hot on. I had it. It is the one that died on me 2 summers ago on asphalt!!! Not sure where it is right now, but if I see it on the weekend, I'll grab the number off it. I am pretty sure they were all supposed to be updated to a different number....
...someone can correct me on this...

jaws pipes work best with stock ex. port heigth, widen but do not raise if you use jaws pipes. Like greenthunder says run at 8600 rpm.

Ok so you say 30 mm from the top of the cyl and 58 mm wide in an oval , and this is for stock pipes ? with out going out to my garage and messure a jug one how much diff from stock and in changeing the port timing is it a must to run premium ? Since I;m in Saskatchewan and when your up north half the time premium is not avalable , which is why I have not thought to raise my compression .

I have the Race logic porting template for the 1000 T-cat, it was easy to use and it did not raise the exhaust port, it only widened the port. It also had you modify the bottom of the cylinder where the cylinder hangs down and blocks the reed entrance. The cylinder modification trims the cylinder up so it ends up hanging down in front of the reeds the same distance as the stock 900 T-cat engine, the stock 1000 cylinder hangs down farther.

How much do you end up trimming off the bottom in front of the reed cage? is the 58 mm the right width for the exaust port ?

800-900cc stock cylinder 30.5mm top exhaust to top cylinder
1000cc cylinder 31.5mm top cylinder to top exhaust......and between 54.5 and 55mm stock (lenght)
race logic on 1000cc cylinder open the exhaust in oval form at 58mm and raise the top of the exhaust at 30.5-30mm if you keep the stock head ,no need to 91 octane gas!!!

How much does this change the peak rpm-HP

with this porting, you need to rev with stock pipes around 84-8500rpm
the best is with pipes.....

With that porting and pipes - do you still run the pipes rec. RPM or does that change with the porting?

im pretty sure those are the #'s of my cdi. i cut the reed cages as 87gtnos had showed a while ago and i also took the reed stuffers and ground them so they flash in seemlesly with the cages instead of all square.and opened them up a little on the inside.
with the cylinder protrusion into the reed area it does really block the flow off. on my old engine i cut the bottom of the cylinders flush with the top of the opening with no detrimental affects that i noticed.on this new engine i havent done this yet because i have a ? for you guys.
when the fuel enters the reed area the most important thing is what
: that it flows in and gets shot to the underside of the piston
or
:that it hits those cylinders hanging down and gets directed around to the transfer ports.
i think that it is the first one but i am no engine wizard and it got me wondering when i was looking at it

So - does the porting change the RPM or is that still dictated by the pipes?

I'd say it's a combo of both! :div20:
