I am sure the CF 500 won't be a racer. I didn't buy this sled for it's speed. I never go 80 on a trail anyway. I deffinately never go faster than that off trail on a trip. I really did want a 600, but it was over a grand more...plus probably drinks more fuel and cost a bit more to insure. Snowmobiling is almost too expensive for me as it is.
It is a done deal now, but thanks for the input anyway, Jim.
I am suprised that NOBODY looks to be buying or trying to sell the 500s, though. Nobody posts anything about the 500s. Real entusiasts must not buy them.
On a speed related note, I have a real race sleds if I want to scare myself or others across a lake. My 350 pound 1972 Speedway 650 triple free-air has 100 horses at 9000rpm. Few newer sleds in any size range will show it much. A wild ride with a 29" ski-stance, open pipes running down the sides, and a 102" cleated track. Yup, it is fast, but I can't trail ride it. Twice across the lake without fouling a plug or breaking something would be doing pretty good. My 1988 Arctic Cat Wildcat Fomula III with 140 horses ain't much better.....but lotsa FUN!
I had a lot of fun trail riding a 340 Polaris TX in days gone by. But even the little TX would run around 80 down a hard-packed road on a cold night. I hope the CF5 will have enough for me.

I would be buying one this year for my wife if she wasn't pregnant. She rides my zr 500 but loves to ride my Crossfire 7 SnoPro. The extra power does scare her on top of the fact that she can't start it herself. I thought that the idea of a 500 crossfire with EFI and reverse would be the perfect sled. I myself(265 lbs) have ridden a zr500 quite aggressively for the last 4 years. Most of my family has worked there way from 800's and 900's down to 440 air cooled and 500 liquids. You get alot better mileage, they're lighter, cheaper, easier to insure. I feel that unless you are lake racing, who cares how fast your sled is. I haven't taken my 140 horse sled over 85 but it is fun getting there.
