vintage sled nut
I just ordered a new XF500 from a dealer in Lansing,MI where I bought my ZR new. I had decided to get the sled there because I like the service and convienience of a small dealer who sells only Arctic Cats.

Even though I didn't intend to buy anywhere else, I haven't saw a 500 Crossfire anyplace at the big dealers or the Michigan Snowmobile Association Show where dozens of dealers were. I think all current XFs were 800s and 1000s that I saw there. I didn't see anybody bring a new F5, either.

Has anyone else bought one? For that matter, has anybody been to a dealer had any on the floor? I was told they could order me anything where I bought mine. When I said what I wanted, I guess the factory had to build it. I was told to expect it in mid-November. Hmmm? That makes me think of another question. Is anybody still waiting for their pre-ordered sleds?

Just curious.

My 500 sabercat only 78 mph and it had a chain case I shudder to think what the Cf with that same lame motor will do with the Diamond driveI would highly recomend the 600

I am sure the CF 500 won't be a racer. I didn't buy this sled for it's speed. I never go 80 on a trail anyway. I deffinately never go faster than that off trail on a trip. I really did want a 600, but it was over a grand more...plus probably drinks more fuel and cost a bit more to insure. Snowmobiling is almost too expensive for me as it is.

It is a done deal now, but thanks for the input anyway, Jim.

I am suprised that NOBODY looks to be buying or trying to sell the 500s, though. Nobody posts anything about the 500s. Real entusiasts must not buy them.

On a speed related note, I have a real race sleds if I want to scare myself or others across a lake. My 350 pound 1972 Speedway 650 triple free-air has 100 horses at 9000rpm. Few newer sleds in any size range will show it much. A wild ride with a 29" ski-stance, open pipes running down the sides, and a 102" cleated track. Yup, it is fast, but I can't trail ride it. Twice across the lake without fouling a plug or breaking something would be doing pretty good. My 1988 Arctic Cat Wildcat Fomula III with 140 horses ain't much better.....but lotsa FUN!

I had a lot of fun trail riding a 340 Polaris TX in days gone by. But even the little TX would run around 80 down a hard-packed road on a cold night. I hope the CF5 will have enough for me.

I would be buying one this year for my wife if she wasn't pregnant. She rides my zr 500 but loves to ride my Crossfire 7 SnoPro. The extra power does scare her on top of the fact that she can't start it herself. I thought that the idea of a 500 crossfire with EFI and reverse would be the perfect sled. I myself(265 lbs) have ridden a zr500 quite aggressively for the last 4 years. Most of my family has worked there way from 800's and 900's down to 440 air cooled and 500 liquids. You get alot better mileage, they're lighter, cheaper, easier to insure. I feel that unless you are lake racing, who cares how fast your sled is. I haven't taken my 140 horse sled over 85 but it is fun getting there.

The difference with the powervalves is to much to overlook its not just a speed thing the 600 gets better fuel millage to boot and the 500 is just plain weak at best. I actually changed the motor in my daughters 500 to a 600 last week and the 500 motor is for sale on this site shes 13 and complained how slow her sled was

YOu must have something missed up wiht your motor or speedometer !
That is not normal
z 570 goes at that speed
Jim Camp
No I was told from the factory that is normal for a 06 500 sabercat with out powervalves I know the F5 are faster with the PV doesnt matter now as I have installed a 05 600 FC motor for her also the 500 only got about 11mpg and my sons F-7 gets 16 at the same speeds and my big bore CF gets ah, well lets not talk about that one

I wanted to buy this one but i didnt know if it would have enough power to go in the deep stuff. How much did you pay for yours because i need to sell a snowmobile at the right price so i can get a crossfire. I am so angry that a bought a sabercat in 2004 and could of bought one that year but i didnt know that i was just 13 but now i am smart and got it all firgured out
