I was told that the '02 prox chaincase won't work on an '03 prox- due to the change in brakes (???). I thought all prox's from '02-'04 are interchangable - the '02 as long the cover stays with it.
Anybody know for sure.

Go to www.partsland.com and look up the item #'s for each model. If they are the same Chaincase Part #, then you should be all right. Otherwise, I wouldn't take any chances.
Also, this site has some pretty competitive prices as opposed to some local dealers I know....

By any chance did your chain break and blow out the case? If so, you may want to take a look at the retaining screw on the drive gear....
One weekend last year we had 3 machines with HYVO gears all break the retaining screw head off the bottom gear and it took out the chain, case, and gears on two of them. Figuring the screw was overtorqued at the factory, I replaced with a high grade cap screw and torqued to 19in-lbs. When this happened to my Pro X, the sled had only 450 miles. I've rode 1000 miles since and it's holding up great.

Uhhh, 19 in/lbs is pretty loose. That is just over 1 1/2 ft/lb. Or do you mean 19 ft/lbs??
The bolt is a 5/16" grade 8 that should be torqued to 18 ft/lbs. That is not excessive tightening.

IAPROX is right and remember the bottom bolt comes with loctite from the man. so when you put them back you should put loctite back on.The other major thing to watch is the washer is beveled to jam on the nut.BEVELED side towards the gear.

03 and up chaincase part # is 5134985 and the cover is part # 5631354
02 chaincase part # is 5133621 and the cover part # is 5631213 according to parts land. I double checked before I pm'ed you back. I wish it did fit because I could have used it. I fixed everything today, just need to pick up some bolts and I'm all set. Thanks for your help though
