Have a line on a 94 ZR700 engine. Now, I had a 94 ZR580 and my buddy had a 700, same year. We found the the carbs were the same VM40, the main jets where the same (till we started playing with them) but the needle was different.
Now, my question, if you had a 97 ZR580 EFI and dropped a ZR700 engine in... that would be a good thing, Engine plate is the same, exhaust, I can figure that out, but I'm not sure about the EFI.
I know the Wildcats were EFI, but I wonder if my current set up would run that old shaking motor.
Sure would be a good sleeper!! LOL :div20:
(oh yah, the reason, my engine has about 6800 miles on it, time to recoat the jugs as they are scuffed and piston time as I broke a ring, damned locater pins!!!)
Piston question... OEM Cat or Wiesco Prolites for the 580?

I would say it would be pretty hard to get the proper fuel management set up to go EFI on the 94 700 engine. The main reason id the fact the ECU is not reprogramable on the 97 EFI controlers. You would have to find someone to burn a new chip.
Another issue is the stator. You would have to change out the stator to 200amp winding to power the batteryless system.
You would be better off going with carbs.

Our your piston questions I ran Wiesco in my 1996 580. Must say you need to make sure the rear heat exchange is warm, you will cold sieze if not. They like to be warm much more then I find with OEM pistons.Just my 2cents worth as for the EFI questions got no answer there for you but your right would make a great sleeper. :beerchug:

I trade sleds with a buddy once and the biggeat thing that stuck in my head was it didn't turn as sharp as my 580,, not sure why, just wondering if something was different in the way the motor sat,,

not a big deal, just thought it was strange,,..R2R

I'd say the EFI wouldn't work. Maybe with a boondocker, or other EFI controller you could tune a new fuel curve. I have always used OEM pistons when rebuilding my 580, for no other reason than I get a good price and great service from my dealer. If you can, get the carbs for that 700 engine. If oyu can't get the carbs, just send the engine, CDI and exhaust to me. I still haven't found a replacement engine for mine.

Do you have flatslide carbs or round slide? What brand of pipes? and any other porting or head shaved work? Oh, and what year 700 motor is it?

hey man,,,,,i have round side carbs, they are just pipes that a friend gave me to try for now.they were off of his wildcat so i don't really know what brand they are,,,i think they are just stock pipes???not really sure though .i did a few mods to the pipes so they now go out the side of my body instead of out the bottom...i have a new rollar clutch on the back and a new 9 tower clutch on the motor with a hot seat clutch kit for a zr 700...and the motor is a 1994.it was an efi and i changed it to carb(well, a friend did it for me)i have 144 woody's studs, and i mix my gasoline because i dont trust my oil ingection.thanks for helpin' me out....
sorry about that ,,the motor is a 1992..and i would love to get some info on how to make her fly.......i just rebuilt the 700 motor ,,,put new crank, cylinder walls and stock 82 mm pistons...the motor is in a 1994 zr 440 sno pro body....

400 mains with totally stock pipes. 420's with different pipes then work your way down if needed. You should run some sort of silencer with any pipes. Louder (in most cases) is slower than quiet ones.
I put loud "cans" on my 93 wildcat efi. After one year of ringing ears and getting alot of LOOKS, I went back to the stock set up and it actually went faster w/ the stock cannister.

thanks buddy,,,what if i have the pipes reduced down from the actual size of the pipe hole which was around inch and a quarter to around nine sixteenth of an inch with cone shaped piping...cause i dont have the stock canister....would that still give me back pressure.....and so you think i should run 400's with stock twin pipes...thanks for the info

should i get some canisters or will the cone chaped piping still give me some back pressure...cause she seemes to still run fine and have lots of power.....but maybe i dont really know how much power im losing cause i didnt ever have cans or the stock can on her.....what do you think...the piping off of the end of my pipes is about 5 inches downward than around a 3 inch curve into it and goes out the side of the body....any suggestions????????????????????

Definately don't do that. What you are talking about doing is reducing the stinger size, by reducing the stinger size you will be "tightning" up the pipes, which traps much more heat in the pipe, makes it want to rev at a higher rpm and in a short distance will melt the exhaust side of the piston. Your gonna need silencers, or your going to be deaf.

thanks man...it is really loud...ha,ha,,,,and i did get some silencers yesterday cause someone else told me that as well...thanks for the info....
thinking on getting some D&D race pipes anyway and throwing them old twins away......
