Guys, sorry if this is a stupid question, but where is the drain for the DDrive on the 2006 Crossfire?? Likewise, where do you re-fill it after you've drained it?? How do you check the level??
Couldn't find this in the lame manual I received.
thanks much, klr

I just picked up mine ,so work with me
Inside the tunnel - Behind the gearcase ,see if there is a drain plug there - Thats were the 05s had them
You also had to refill there also - Lay sled on side blah blah - Lot of guys including me were pulling gearcase to clean , inspect , pull apart and refill
Anyways ,i have already had my secondary clutch off on both crossfires
If i remember correctly - On front gearcase cover behind secondary there were two drain plugs
One lower and another slightly above
Lower of course would be another drain - Make a mess inside your bellypan
Higher one ,front cover would be your refill location
When you buy the gearcase oil from your dealer it comes in a three ounce bottle
Refill three ounces only - Your done - Pretty simple on these sleds compared to my 05
However would be a good idea once in a while to pull complete gearcase out - Clean , check seals and bearings etc. and refill
When you drain oil check for water - If water present check your inner seal by drivers

I say dont try to drain and fill it, you will NOT be able to get ALL the old oil out, and then when you add 3oz you will be overfull. this causes bad things to happen to the DD! Just pull the gear case and thoroughly clean it while apart, and refill on the bench. do this once a season (I'll be doing mine shortly) its not really much more work than trying to drain it.

So how do you pull the DD?
Do you pull the long bolt from the brake side, then take out the 6 or so bolts from the front of the DD?

You need to remove the drive from the sled but DON'T need to disassemble it. In fact, I wouldn't. You need to buy the kit from Arctic Cat. The kit includes a cleaning fluid that you use rinse out the drive.
First step. Remove the drive.
Second step. Drain the old oil.
Third step. Put in 1/2 of the cleaning fluid and shake.
Fourth step. Drain fluid.
Repeat third and fourth steps with remaining cleaning fluid.
Fifth step. Do as much as you can to get ALL of the cleaning fluid out. Turn gears by hand and
drain while using an air compressor to blow out the fluid. There is another hole in the center of
drive gear where the clutch attaches.
Finally, put the 3oz of oil from the kit in and put the clutch back.

I just pulled my DD apart, as I only got a little trickle from the drain plug. WAY MORE old lube left inside that needed to be cleaned out. Took the secondary off and took out the small bolts, bam its off. Put some new smooey on the gasket surface and your done after you put the new lube in. I would not just drain it, too much left inside. my .02 :div20:

Hello chuckbernard,
Would you happen to have the part# for the "kit" that is offered from Arctic Cat for servicing the DD unit that you made reference to above ?
Thanks,
