First off I own a 1995 Polaris XLT Special. I want this sled to be done right so i can take it out on the trail and be able to some what keep up with my dads Apex GT but still have it be "reliable". I have been riding this sled for a few years now but I am just starting to get into modifying it. I am thinking of adding a set of SLP Triple Pipes, Porting the Engine and adding larger pistons, plastic skis. I just recently added bar risers, hand guards, new seat, and a few other things. What else should i look into?

Thanks a lot, polaris_rules.gif i_need_snow.gif

Geez, if your going to spend all that money, I would just buy a faster sled, you have an Xtra 12 suspension, it's never going to get real fast with that, also, you probably should replace the crank bearings as XLT's are known for bearing failures, and modifying the motor is going to make it worse.

The 95's weren't kown for crank failures.

You can say that to me? I must have done 30 1995's cranks in my shop so far, all the XLT's had crank bearing problems, they used the same bearings in all the years they made them. #3084586, & 3084599. The Triumph model in 2000 finally went to different end bearings.

the 95 were the first to have the crank problem definately!! had 3 junk bottom ends myself. they werent recognized till about the time 96s came out because they didnt go till about 3000 miles give or take. then they realized this and somewhat helped the problem with the extra oiler on the 97.
definately agree, the xlts are great fun family sleds, but NOT performance machines. the x-12 offered a good ride but HEAVY. sell this sled and buy something newer.

I am planing on buying a new sled. I still want to keep this and build it up, since you dont see it done much.

id be careful putting triple pipes on the xlt. i know a few who have done it and had major problems including engine failure.
