I tried starting my snowmobile for the first time this year (getting ready for the snow!! :fluffy: ) But when I started it, it only wanted to run with the choke on full or half as soon as I would turn it off it would die, then I turned the key off and turned it back on and there was two positions it could be on. I put it on the first one and tried to start it again and the prem only light turned on and it seemed to run a little better, then I turned it off and turned the key one more position and the light turned off and it ran like it should?? Is the first spot for race gas?? What performance gains would there be to leave it in the first position?

There is a premium(first spot) and a regular(second spot) setting. There some small gains to be had with running premium. The 700's run better on premium IMO.

Key switch position is not your problem. Your pilot jets are plugged up. You need to take the carbs apart and clean them .

I just did clean the carbs and it ran like it did until I messed around with the key, now it runs fine, I had it up in the stand and made sure the track was spinning also.
