Is it bad to leave your GPS on for long periods of time? I have mine in my truck, and I usually shut if off everytime I get out of the truck. Can the image "burn" it's self into the screen if it's left on too long and nothing is changing? I know with computers this can happen, and the screen saver is the fix...didn't know if the same was true with GPS?
I have a Garmin Vista C - I'd love to just leave it on, but don't want to wreck it either...
Thanks!

When I go sledding I turn the unit on as soon as I put it in the mount and the only time I shut it off is when I remove the unit from the sled either at the end of the day or if we park our sleds unattended at lunch etc. In the truck I turn it off when I get to destination . I find that in cold weather it is much easier to just leave the unit on as the screen gets hard/impossible to read in very cold temps. I have a heater in my mount as well to keep the unit warm so I can read the screen.

I do the same. I have used my E-Trex Vista for a number of years and haven't had any problem with images burning themselves onto the screen. You can go onto the Garmin website and ask there to see what they recommend. You don't want to run into warranty issues if you have a problem.

You can leave it on for as long as you want and you will not have any problems. On my charter boat I turn mine on in March and never turn it off till November ! Theres times we go many days and nights sitting at the dock not moving where the info remains the same and not switching screens and nothing ever hurts any of the different units that I have done this with. Damn near bullet proof I would say.
By the way, a chart plotter/GPS on a sled is too cool ! :div20:

Mine is on in my truck all the time too. No problems at all yet. You will lose some tracking as the memory is used up, but it will delete older stuff first.
