I heard that Quebec passed a smoking ban this summer. Any truth to that. What places are off limits?

Actually, smoking is now banned in all public places in the Province of Quebec. Of course, that includes bars and restaurants. The provincial government has followed Ontario's lead in this area (although I'm not sure if the Ontario ban is province-wide yet). Anyway, owners and managers of such places are being pretty careful about observing the law as the fines are very hefty.

The smoking ban is FANTASTIC! I was in Montreal this past weekend and didn't come home thinking I would get lung cancer... It's really going to make stoping at the relais more enjoyable.

I can hold my breath while walking in just not the whole time during lunch or dinner

I'm curious if all the remote places will abide by the law. Lot's of heavy smokers up there....

They passed the same ban here in NY a couple years ago and it kicks ass. Now when you wake up with a hangover the smell of your own clothes isn't what is going to make you puke. I can remember waking up in the morning and being able to smell the smoke emanating from my pile of clothes on the bedroom floor, it was gross.

The main reason for banning smoking is to provide a smoke free enviroment for any employees.

Make sense to me.Some people may have heard about that waitress in the Ottawa area who died of lung cancer after having been exposed to second hand smoking for over 40 years. She was a non-smoker.It made headlines in the news and papers.

I could see the band in restaurants but not in bars.
The goverment should clean up the pot users that sell drugs to our children and tear up our famillies and leave the poor Joe alone who wants to puff on a cig .
One day its smoking , another day what else snowmobiling ?
If i wanted to live a dictatorship type of society i would move to North korea, Whats North America comming too ?

Heard of her,She is the one who started the no smoking Ban. following a 2 stroke too close is like smoking one pack of cigarets every half hour. SO STAY WELL BACK. As for none smokers, BUY a 4 stroke and practice what you preach. You will live longer and pay more TAXES.

You make some good points, but the real reason behind the ban is providing a safe workplace for all employees. I also know there are a lot of other places where people work that are more unhealthy than cigaret smoke. Go figure.

I was in Quebec last week and it was very nice to walk out of a bar and not have smoke in my clothes not to mention that my eyes didn't itch from it as well as I could see al the way across the bar that normally was a haze of smoke from one end to the other

Well, for what its worth, I am a smoker, and although its not the best thing to freeze your ass to have a smoke, I prefer eating in a restaurant or having a beer in a smoke free environment, because, when too much is too much, it does get pretty gross, any honest smoker will admit to that. Should have passed the law a long time. Maybe it will intice me to quit all together someday. Who knows, until then...c'est la vie.

Some bars / restaurants here are smoke free until 9:00pm so that those who want to eat a nice dinner can do so in a smoke free enviroment.
