I think im running 350's with the needle in the 2 pos......no airbox mods or anything. Im still running rich.....so i feel safe with this setup....no elevation worth talking about.....She pulls the skis about 1ft or so in the air all day, until I let off!
clutching is 53deg helix, yellow in back red up front with 56 gram weights, not sure if that was stock or not, they said that it's a cat racing setup, but I think it's hi elevation setup....not sure tho. but she does rock....
after xmas, im getting a D&D racing clutch kit, 23/40 gears, power breather, boyesen reeds, and some odds and ends. she should rip then!

Elevation is important to know so I'm gonna guess 0 to 1000 feet. 2 different ways to jet. do what zrnewf said or leave needle in stock position and go to 330"s. Some go as low as 310's (my brother did) but that is border line lean. 1 1/2 turns out on the fuel/air screws (white plastic tipped on right side or carbs) is a good starting point if you do anything with these screws, move them only a 1/16th of a turn at a time(in) and test ride. They make alot of difference in fuel deleivery. A good clutch kit is very important -Stock clutching is very weak Stock settings were 350 mains, clip in 3rd position, and 1 1/2 turns out . My set up is totally different/ (twin pipes).................tigger

i was a bit touchy on droppin the needle a posiiton, because taht is where most of your riding is done, at half throttle, but my plugs are black and wet, so I should be fine right tigger? thnx...

It's too bad most of you guys are "low-landers", I ride at 5000-8000 feet. My setup is different. I'm running 250 jets, and the eclip in the 3rd position. I'm probably going to drop the clip to the #2 position after I do my "readings" after my first couple rides. Anybody have some high altitude settings?

zr700, you need to get a pic of yo' sled in your avitar.....Check with cat for their hi alt settings then go from there......

well, if your going to run stock pipe, then I feel that the setup im going to be running after xmas will do the job. Now, if your going to run twins, talk to joe, his sled is a rocket now.....I will have all the stuff on my sled just after xmas, had a set back so can't get everything right yet. but, from my research, when I get everything done to mine, I should be neck and neck with most 800's of 2001 area. joe pulls on them because of the twin pipes.. but im keepin single because I like the ease of tuning, the single is not as finiky as the twins for jetting and what not. like I said, im running rich now, so when I get the rest of the stuff done, I should be perfect....and fast....
ZRBOY99,
The stock jetting depends on the year of your sled. For the 2000 models the Main Jets were 320s and I believe the needle is in the 3rd clip.
Last year I put on some BM twins and am following their recomendations for starters. I ride mainly in N. Wisconsin and the UP, so elevation is only about 1000-1800ft at the most.
Here is a link to the 700 specs from BM website.
It shows the stock clutching for the 99&00 as well as stock carb set ups.
http://www.blackmagicracing.com/2002pages/...ctwin-specs.htmSince I am following BM advice I am running 320 mains and the needle in the 4th position. I only got to put 400 miles on the new pipes last year. It ran good, but I do have a little hesitation in the midrange, I did not have time to test if it was a rich or lean bog. Hopefully there is more snow this year and when I go up to the lake over Christmas I can determine if I am too rich or lean in the midrange and adjust accordingly.
Here is some of BM's findings regarding their testing with the 700. This was done in Alaska. Scroll down to find the section about the 700.

I also have a set of Boyseen reeds that I have yet to install. I am hesitating because of the amount of engine tear down that is required to get them in. I will be interested in hearing how your install goes. I noticed that Boyseen says you will need to drop 2-3 jet sizes (reduce). Which would put me in the 290-300 main jet range?? Once I get the pipes dialed in, then maybe move on to the reeds and start the jetting process over again.
Keep those 700's running strong.

Joe,
what do you think of these clutching setups? and what is the difference between the hi alt clutching and sea level?
have a look at them and let me know....
thanks bud....

Newf: It's not all that different than what i'm running; I have more helix pressure and spring than that setup so I can a crisp backshift.
I am curious about the engagement RPM's though. I bet it is pretty high.
Jetting seems right though.
If I get time I might try the secondary setup on mine.
First I need some snow though!!!
We got a skiff last night. Not enough though.
BTW the can is in NB somewhere. It should be near you soon!

yah figure that setup would run good on mine?
I am lookin at the rage 60/53 helix,
black orange primary
black pink secondary
and 53 g poo weights....
if this will work im open to getting that because I would assume that it's way cheaper than a "kit"......Like i said before I want a hard hitting clutch with good backshift....if anything you dont agree with, let me know....
thanks....

Zrnewf, if your still running rich with your set-up you can go to 340's or you can turn your air/fuel screws in a little at a time .2nd position is not too lean for some sleds. You can also go to 330's and get the special washers that go under the needle clip. It's half thickness so you will need 2 for each carb. That gives you 10 adjustments on your needle instead of 5. I have these in my 700. you could run in the 2 1/2 position. 1 washer on top of the clip and 1 below. Stock plastic washer is .80 thick, you replace it with 2 washers that are .040 thick. If you need the part # I can get it. they are cheap and a great tuning tool. I leave a allen wrench in my tool box so I can change them out on the trail, its easy. If I'm ever out and the temp drops like crazy, I move the washer from the top to the bottom and it richens it up so I wont melt down (Never had to do it yet but just in case) You just dont want to lose your clip(I have extras)....tigger

Will it be rich when I add the reeds and airbox cover? that is what Im wondering, if im rich now, and add these few little things, then I should be spot on and rip!
what about the clucthing above, sound like a good setup for the stock pipe?

On that sled you have only 1 reed per cylinder. I would think boyesen or carbon tech is a good choice. I have carbon tech. I not sure about the power breather, I dont own one. I just modify the stock box. The airbox cover will add more carb noise. On your clutching, I ran a B/M kit for a stock 99 ZR700 and I loved it. the helix is a company secret, the springs are listed( I will have to locate them tomorrow) and the weights were 61 grams. The springs you list sound like black magic's colors. are they? With the kit my sled pulled 8100 rpms consistantly. Now with twin pipes, I have to get it dialed in again. I run 330's w/ twin pipes( I think, I will check tomorrow for sure)......We still dont have any snow!!! ......tigger
