I am going to start planning a little HCS ride for all of us that would rather play in the powder, instead of poundin the trails. I am going to post this in both the Wisconsin and Michigan forum and we will see iff we can get a little ride together. I am going to make suggestions, but, if you have anything you would like to add, go ahead and we will try and make everyone happy.

First off, as i said, this is going to be a off trail ride, with i'm sure lots of playing in fields, hills, and things of that sort. I think that the Twin Lakes area would be a perfect place for this ride to take place. Lodging, great food, and DEEP pow always makes for an awesome ride, and Twin Lakes has it all. I know we would be able to find the kind of riding that would make everyone happy.

Secondly, i'm thinkin the end of December or the beginning of January for this ride. Post what dates will, and will not work for you and we will try and make it a weekend where we can get as many HCSer's together as possible.

Third, one day ride? two day ride? i'm all for driving to the hotel on friday nite, unload, and hit the sack for an early start on saturday. Ride all day saturday, go out for a good dinner, come back to the hotel, have a few drinks or what not and then sunday morning riding for 5 or 6 hours and then heading back the the hotel and packing up to head home. Again, post what you would like to do...

Lastly, i'm not trying to be an ass here, but you have to realize that there is some difficult riding in the UP and there are some spots that require both you and your sled are capible to ride off trail, or you will either get hurt or wreck something. So please don't bring along ur buddy that rides a 86 phazer, and cannot ride if his life depended on it :frech32: ...What i'm trying to say is that i would really like to see an experienced bunch of riders with capible sleds get together, and see what we can do...

I'm really looking forward to hearing what you all have to say, and i hope you call can make it. Its surely going to be an awesome time, and i am looking forward to riding with ya! :div20:

Scott :beerchug:

You can PM me with any questions or conserns you might have.

I would like to do some off trail riding in the U.P. this winter. Is the Twin Lakes area an area you have ridden off trail extensively already? I just don't want to go up and find some hazards that get me hurt because somebody don't kow where they are. That is a reason I am not too adventurious up north in deep snow.

I am a pretty capable rider. I had a buddy ride his SRX600 off a trail and down a bank. When I turned around and went back, I saw where he left the trail. About 100 feet off the trail, he was standing on the boards with a big hump in the snow where his windshield was. I used my unmodified ZR6 to blaze a trail for his sled back up to the trail. There was 3 feet of snow in the previous couple of days. It was a blast. I have been planted a few times, but who hasn't in fresh deep stuff. Well, I am getting a Crossfire this year. I can't wait to try it out.

By the way, a mid-eighties Phazer was a pretty good powder sled, for flatlander powder anyway. They were much lighter than most sleds of today, and the TSS front didn't drag it down in the snow like most of the independant fronts with all of their a-arms, shocks, and springs sticking out there. A good rider can go about anywhere a sane person would want to go on one.

I'll be watching for more ride info. It sounds cool!

hey zr I would be up for the 1st or 2nd weekend of January! Sounds like an awesome time! The way you are thinking with getting there Friday night and riding Saturday sounds good to me. I would saty Friday and Saturday night, then head back home Sunday for me. If those dates work out I am there! Probably 1 or 2 perfectly capable buddies too! Keep me posted huh? Wanted to make it up last year just never really had the time, but if you plan this far ahead of tiime should work out for me.
Rxlrider
If I can make it, I will. Sounds like a great time. I have been looking for the "steep and deep" in the UP. I still need to rejet and reclutch from my last ride of the year, last march in Rabbit Ears pass in Colorado.

Sounds good  let it snow ,power powder!

I'd be interested depending on dates.

Not the weekend of Jan 13-14. I have to be back up at school for the charity ride. But otherwise, all the other weekends I should be able to make.

My brother and I will go. Sounds like fun.

This is an OFF TRAIL ride. If you hit something, and there is a good chance you will, don't get pissed at ZRMan31. There is a lot of stuff buried under the snow, rocks, stumps, logs, old dryers ( thats not a typo!), off trail is a blast, the most fun you can have on a sled in my opinion, but it also means RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Unless the area gets HAMMERED in December, and no thaw, I would wait until mid January. Here is a pic of our ride Jan 6th of this past winter. Notice the log I'm on.

Depending on when, I might be in. :div20:
ZRman_31
count me in on crashing at ur camp patrick!

I'm really surprised about how much interest i've gotten already about this ride. It already looks as if its going to be a go. The first thing we really need to come up with is an exact date so people can start planning. January 6th and 7th? January 13th and 14th? let me know what you thing so we can set a date.

skylar, i'm really hoping that you can make it. You know darn well we will be making a few stops at Krupps, how can you resist?
teamgreenF7
I would come but I think my z 120 would be too fast for you guys and you wouldn't be able keep up
LOUD 700 X
Id be in with about 5 or 6 others. Teamgreen will be able to go. Trust me his 120 is quick and can handle the deepest powder.
polaris bob
As others have said, depending on the date, count me in! :div20:

And I can most likely speak to the fact that you can count on Bornsilly being in on the ride too! Seeing how he just loves to ride that area! Might have one or two others in our group also, really derpends on the exact weekend! Duh!
boondockit
Snowmobile $6500.
big lug track 300.
shovel 75,
off road sleding PRICELESS

Spent a week at twin lakes last year, I like it better than the keeweenaw, off road powder rules
geberhard
Sounds like a great time.
ZRman_31
I'm going to give a few dates for this ride to take place, and you post what date you would like the ride to happen on. I will count the number of people that picked each date on sunday nite and i will post up what the offical date will be.

January 6th and 7th?

OR

January 13th and 14th?

OR

January 20th and 21st?

I have a trip planned for the 12-17 already, but I'll vote for those dates. I will plan on riding with you guys for the 2 days if thats the weekend you do it. Sounds like a good time snowfall.gif

So the 13-14 for me. :beerchug:
makwa
I will be interested also. I have not been back home there all year.
I have a bunch of relatives that live there that would jump in also.

I'll be staying in South Range.

My favorite though was the old truck that was buried under the snow, we can use those as a berm for turning. Everytime someone asks to tag along my response is "your insurance premium paid up?" Seriously though skylar you know how I hate to get stuck, I had better stay at the mosquito and borrow you guys my sno-bunje. Chances are we'll be at the camp that weekend so we might be able to help the crew get along and we need to get that RMK dialed in yet Skylar! We should be to do a little of this huh?
kornbloom
The last weekend inJan or the first weekend in Feb. Myself and a couple of guys from Ontario could make the trek.

Korn
ZRman_31
that would be awesome if we could get you guys to come all the way from ontario! But it seems that most people are wanting the ride to take place the weekend of the 13th and 14th. We will see thou, i'll count em up sunday nite.

I'm drooling right now!! :fluffy: :fluffy:
How about some of this?
ZR9B
We did alot on off trail riding in the 1st years of the TY days...if done rite a big group can stay mobile all day long....Me and my bro may tag along...
ZRman_31
awesome pics skylar!!! UP riding at its best!
n2oiroc
after looking at those pics, me thinks the 144" x 1.25" might not be enough. anyone have a 144" x 2" i can borrow? :smilielol: :banghead:

If anyone needs any other info about places up here get ahold of me. Let me know what your looking for. Also look out for creeks like BLUEBEAR didnt do.
ZRman_31
Looks like January 13th and 14th is the date. Like i said, i'm all for making it a weekend deal but i'm not sure if that will work for everyone. Do we want to kind of stick together as far as lodgeing or do we wanna go everyman for themself. I'm all for staying at the Parkview in Twin Lakes. I think it would be great if we all stayed there because they have a nice restuarant, bar, and a nice place for all of us to sit around the BS.

lol, dang bluebear always gettin stuck.
mxzdudecars
Off trail is the best ,two days don't seem to be enough after the long trip up & back . motoneige31.gif
Drifter
Off trail rules!! That why I bought the X-fire!!! Can't wait, Hopefully you'll have deepr enough pow mid Jan dunno.gif
firegrizz7
You guys better call the parkview if you wanna stay there i can almost bet you they are already full that weekend. To ride that area that time of the year your better off staying in houghton everything is is prolly pretty booked around that area. Like i said i can probably get 6 people to stay at my camp in misery bay just let me know.
ZRman_31
that is exactly what i was going to post today patrick, you guys that want to come, REALLY should get your reservations at parkview if you are plannin on staying there. That place books up fast, and its very popular.
TillTheEnd
I posted this pick last weekend before the great HCS server meltdown, its actually one of Skylars pics I think but it fits the UP off-trail theme and as for enough snow this was my bud stuck on our "opening day" weekend last year which is historicaly the weekend before Christmas. But in reality everyone, you all heard the weatherman on "The Weather Channel" a couple weeks ago reporting live from Twin Lakes, MI and on the average they only get 3" of snow per year!

If some people have to stay in houghton we can meet saturday morning and ride down as a group. Ill be leaving from houghton saturday morning from my dorm. Im guessing it should only be a half hour ride dunno.gif
ZRman_31
30 minutes to an hour... depending on what the trails are like... Good idea WIpolaris, if anyone wants to stay in houghton it would be a great idea to meet up early saturday morning and ride down to Twin Lakes as a group.
firegrizz7
If i takes an hour from houghton to twin lakes by trail no matter how bad they are you better give up snowmobiling and find a new sport sorry
