My brother replced his on his 02 700. I guess in the middle of 02 they came with an up-grade there is a round metal piece on the outside of the recoil itself. The ones with that on there are the up-dated ones.

haha yea I replaced mine three times... take some of that tape that looks like aluminum foil and put that over your recoil... it will save your day haha...

okay cool is there any year recoil that was better? than others? I have read some peopl putting a mxz670 one on will they interchange? or should I go to the snowmobile junk yaerd an look for an 02? do you happen to have the pic of the upgrade?

my sled is an 02 and didn't come with the upgrade... if you are going to a junk yard I would get one off a 03 rev. and I don't know about the 670. don't just replace a few parts on the inside of the recoil because chances are after it blew shit got twisted.. thats what happened to me.. after not replacing the whole thing anyway. I would go to a dealer and look to see how much they are I think I picked up the whole kit for about 200 bucks because my dad knew the guy from highschool. GOOD LUCK

Yes it will fit, the metal piece in the middle is to stop the flexing of the plastic.

Just my .02 worth here, I've had 2 recoils blow apart on the 800 eng. Check out Dootalk & Snowest, search for recoil, lots of info there, repair an upgrades. Some guys have upgraded them w/ bolts & washers. I changed mine out fot the 670 style to see how well it'll stand up. Need the adapter ring from the 670 eng (it bolts right on to the 800 eng) There is also someone out there that is or is going to build an aftermarket recoil for these out of alum. It's coming.

thats pretty much my point.. if the recoil heats up then the plastic becomes bendable. so if you do get another plastic recoil just do everything you can to keep the exhaust's heat away from the recoil.

Mine is steel with a ring, but my buddies is plastic bolt on.
Both 01 800's, made one month apart???
I have had to weld my steel one a couple of times due to cracking.
