My buddy has a 2004 700 switchback, he installed a two inch paddle track everything else is stock. Wondering if he should gear down or is he going to be fine. What kind of mods are they doing that make a difference on that sled but are still reliable.
thanks

Even for flatland trail riding the stock gearing is too high.
With a 2in track I would gear down to somewhere around 22/40 or so maybe even lower if you're in deep snow and or higher elevations.
Somewhere between the RMK7 gearing and the Switchback7 gearing....closer to the RMK if you're off trail which i assume is the reason for the 2in?
Belt life will also be better.

I take it your budy likes boon docking. If he want's to keep the stock 74 pitch chain then the only 3 gear combos that i would run would be 21-40= 1.90 ratio, 21-41= 1.95 ratio and 20-41=2.05 ratio if he's a light guy then i'd go with ethire 21-40 or 21-41 but if he's 250+ i'd go 20/41. A 1 to 1 clutch ratio of 8000 rpm the sled would run 90.2 mph with 21-40, 88.0 mph with 21-41 and 83.8 with 20-41. I would try a 170/330 primary spring 10/64 Polaris weights, Team CCW Black/Red 155/220 secondary spring and a 62/44.46 Team helix. Jet down to 450s mains gut the airbox run good fuel update to SLPs Push arm, torque arm and hold on. :div20:
