9 tower - 850 miles. The rollers have some right to left play (roll fine though) - is that normal? If not what is the process for rebuilding? Does the spider need to come off? Are the OEM parts the bet to use?

Thanks

Why do you think it needs to fe rebuilt? dunno.gif
If you are looking for more performance, do a search for clutch kits.
Oh yeah, the side to side play in the rollers is normal.

It is not a clutch kit type of thing. I know that the primary has some servicable parts and was wondering when and how they get rebuilt.

Thanks.

Your probably ok with only 850 miles, but I do mine yearly, 24 bucks for rebuild kit vs. 250 for new clutch. cheap as a gallon of oil these days. kit is cam arm bushings, washers and pins. No need to worry about the spider for many miles if theese few things are kept up. Ive seen to many whoped out bushings letting the weights swing sideways and chew the heck out of a perfectly good spider.

Its a tough call on when to rebuild the clutch unless its totaly trashed. Rule of thumb rebuild at 2000 miles for performance. The rollers act different when there is pressure on them. The buttons ware fast then tend to take a set and dont get much worse. The more tension a spring has the more it will lose over time. If the clutch is kept clean the sliding bushings last a long time. You need some special holders and tools to take the spider off to do the rollers and buttons. You have to heat up the clutch pretty good to move the spider. OEM are good parts and sometimes the only parts

I do mine every year, but as 720 stated, if you keep them clean, you should be able to go 2K. I wouldn't go any further than that. My pins and washers were toast after ~1,400 last year.

I like to do a thorough job cleaning my clutches and tearing them apart makes it easier. I also think the accumulation of dirt throws the balance off. But what do I know :cn: .

I just brought home the kit today, from Scholl's AC today.

Ditto. I've been accused of over-maintaining equipment but my stuff doesn't break; primary every 1000 miles(re-balanced at a machine shop before I ever took the sled off the trailer) secondary gets new 1" wide bearings sometimes as often as 500 miles if I'm bored. The balance works wonders for bushing and pin longevity.

i run the heel-clickers and i've found the crazy spring tension and weight tends to waste the cam arm bushings fast. every 1000 miles is a must. as far as rollers and pins i ran mine 6000miles and it was more than ready to be changed. i ended up just buying a new spider assy. then got it rebalanced.
