Is there any back country riding around Burlington?(Well like no more than 1 or so hours of driving to get there) I am talking like mountain back country riding. I was thinking maybe on Mt. Mansfield. But I wasnt sure wether I could ride on the mountain.

Thanks

There is no back mountain riding in Vermont.....only designated trails. Not sure if you have been to the Green mountain state.....but it is called that becuase of all the trees everywhere. Only option you may have is riding on someone's open land with their permission.

Otherwise, if you venture off trail, you could potentially put our trail system in jeopardy by pissing off one of our landowners who is kind enough to let us ride on a trail across his land :frech32: .....and not to mention the rest of your fellow snowmobilers who work their ass off to keep these trails open.

The closest trails to Burlington would be most likely Shelburne/Hinesburg....the trail ends at the Dutch mill motel on Shelburne Rd. Very limited access based on the amount of snow. Other options would be to head towards Essex/Cambridge, north towards Milton/Fairfax....Vast trail map would help you with parking areas and trail access.

If you are willing to travel an 1 1/2 to 2 hours out of burlington, you have many great options...NEK, Eden, Groton, Jay peak area...etc...

Yeah I live in Vermont but I still have heard of people riding some back country. I figured since snowmobile shops sell mountain sleds there must be a place to use them.

for the wishful thinkers. they do it a bunch in northern nh and maine, may think about a trip over that direction.

Jumping Rocks in a cow pasture is about as close to "back country" as you're gonna get.

But that's a blast too!

I know I wont find anything like what is in the movies. But there must be something.

like we said, get access to private property from someone you know. anything else has the chance of getting our trails shut off. some areas don't have many options left for re-routs anymore.

Oh no dont worry I am in no way going to do anything that would put the trails in jeopardy thats why I was asking.
