Hey,

I was wondering is anyone had any advise for setting up a 2000 XC 600 for a 150lb women. My friends wife complains of heavy steering effort and overall stiff unforgiving ride. They are bringing it over to my place for some adjusments and minor repairs. I wanted to see if anyone had any good setup specs to start at. Limiter strap along with shock adjustments would be good.

Thanks in advance,

Buck

My girlfriend is about that weight, maybe a little less. I have her on an '01 XC8 - mostly because it has electric start and reverse. I've moved her torsion spring rollers and scissor links to the front holes. Torsion spring adjuster cams are on low, coupling blocks are in the middle. Stock (fresh) PPS shock. Suspension, from what I can see, seems to be doing OK under her when going down the trail.

Heavy steering is controlled mostly by preload of front skid spring - but is also a compromise in how well it's going to handle in a turn. Heavy or not, I'm sure you want to maintain some degree of control. Carol is doing well with no preload there at all, the same as I would set up my own. Stock plastic skis, Polaris EZ steer setup with 4" of carbide, 144 (worn) studs down the center.

Last year was her first, like most others we didn't get many miles in. She rode maybe 1500 - and is chomping at the bit for a chance to ride more. May have to keep her around for another season....

Thanks for the reply, I will try to get close to that setup to start. I can help them fine tune it during the season.

Look at your rear scissor link at the slide rail. There should be 2 or 3 holes. If you have 3, move it to the furthest forward hole. That will give a softer ride. Also move the rear scissor stop block to the rear hole. This will aslo give more weight transfer, which will make the front end looser. It's all a trade off.
