3211042 should be the stock belt.
So if your SURE that the carbs are clean, sync'ed and set to spec then make sure that the clutches are clean (no lube) and tight (no slop) Check for weak or broken springs, gummy clutch bushings, worn clutch bushings, worn weight bushings, worn buttons, proper belt to primary clearance (.020") and belt deflection (1 1/4").

I had the same problem with my 440, but mine was a picky little bitch anyways cause of pipes and other mods. I had to run a BR9ES instead of a 8 and that made a pretty big difference, I also had a problem with the needles getting stuck in the seats. I also adjusted the slide up 1 if I remember right. Yours is a little different than my old one cause every two degree climate change and mine ran like that. Good luck and hopefully this can help.

Replace the needle valves with new viton tip ones, and check the float heights. Run BR9ES or RN2C plugs. The carb sync must be right on, set the air screws to the factory spec on the hood decal. Set the idle to 22-2500 rpm warm engine, no lower than 2200. Rebuild the fuel pump with a kit, around $5 for the kit. Revent the carbs to the air box instead of the handlebars, and then richen the mains 2 sizes above stock. Get fittings from a 96-98 440 evolved chassis, or a 97-99 XLT Ltd., with 34mm carbs. Check the timing, and set it 2 degrees above stock. Check the timing marks with a dial indicator.
