i am recently looking at buying a polaris 800 storm. i believe it is a 1992 and i was wondering if any one that has had the sled before could give me any information on them. wether they get stuck easy, there very heavy...stuff like that thank-you

Storm started in 1993 it was a 750. Reliable sled. 1994 was an 800. There were some issues with 1994 storms it seems with people who did not drive it fast enough.

550 lbs 8 inch travel front and rear many issues with these sleds so if you want a reliable trail sled stear clear if you want a lake runner then maybe. I wouldn't buy one.

you'll get more info on the polaris forum or the general snowmobile forum. xlt is probably a more reliable setup than the storm though. I had a 94 xlt and it was a great sled, no unusual problems.

Same thoughts here on the XLT I passed my 94 on to my young lad with 8,000 miles on it, it's now over 12,000 miles and still starts first pull and runs like a top. Never had to put wrench to it other than reg maintanace and replace the primary clutch last season at 10,000 miles due to hair line cracks.

XLT over the Storm for sure. Did the Superior Loop 2 years ago with one with over 10000 miles on it, 11+ when we were done.

The best thing about the Storm was it still ran just as well with only 2 out of 3 cylinders.

Why don't you look for a Fusion? I hear there are quite a few
used ones for sale and pretty cheap I hear! :smilielol:

Seriously though, a few riding buddies have XLT's and they
seem to like them. Fairly reliable sleds.

Good luck.

I have owned a 1993 XLT,1994 storm,and a 1998 XLT....do NOT buy the storm, unless its about $200 and you don't plan on riding very far....my 2 cents

Agreed, although I never owned a Storm, a friend did, usually i'm Pro Polaris, but it was a piece. It was a 1994, which was the first year they went to the 800 from the 747.

I had a 1996 XLT Special and it was a great all round sled. I put 3600 miles on in the first winter then got rid of it, but for 3600 miles I never had one single problem.

Don't get the Storm although I know of a '93 with over 10000 miles on it.
XLT's and 95-97 XC600's were good and should be plentiful. The 96 has the grasshopper 12 inch suspension in the regular model and rides like a Caddy (or a fat chick). Good for bumpy Sundays in Haliburton or Muskoky.
My bro got 9000 miles (in 3 years) out of his 94 til the constant to the bar riding cooked it. It would pull near 100 mph I recall. Rode low tho'.
The newer ones on the aggressive chassis (98 and up) like you are looking at are coyote ugly. One lad has one with over 10000 miles and other than a warranty engine implosion it's still good. Just don't expect to run drags against the twin sleds of similar displacement.
The Triumph from 2000 I think was an XLT motor in an XC chassis.

Happy hunting.
