I hauled my seat apart last night with the intention of adding a bit of height and possibly some stiffer seat foam. Found that the seat is made up of 2 seperate layers. The top layer is just for the profile of the seat and the inside is just a rectangular block of foam. Anyway, the outer layer foam has cracked on both inside corners, and Im wondering if anyone has tried to fix this. Is there any glue product that may hold it together? Also has anyone else tried to re-profile the seat with any success? Id love to hear your experiences.

well i replaced my core in the seat when sled had 0miles on it so this experience is learned from my cousins race sled,
my cousin had the same problem as you are having now, cracked outer foam and piece of shit foam inside :frech32: , if you replace the core with something more dense/firm the covering foam will hold up much better, i have a upholstry shop nearby that made my new core and repaired my cousins outer foam and made him a new core as well, they used a special glue that were special for foam a contact adhesive,

contact a good upholstry shop that can fix your seat, it wasnt expensive but my seat is soo much better than new :div20: ..., my seat shop guy also noticed that the staples that secure the cover were too long, they penetrated the plastice bottom and tore the foam inside, so they wrapped the cover double and stapled the cover in place, this makes for a more durable seat... :beerchug:

Thanks man, I dont have easy access to an upholstery shop so the stiffer foam may be hard to come by. Im going to try a couple different things to stiffen it up a little.

if it helps the bottom of my core was made of styrolen, like the inslulation used underneath roads, concrete floors etc.. then layer by layer the core was built up with softer material and glued together with spray adhesive, , the foam used was a multi colored foam with a firm feel so that the seat keeps the height when compressed, then cut to the exact shape of the stock boxlicke core.. i havnt checked on the web, their might be some company that sells good furniture foam you could use for good$...

well i like the topic...i work at an upholstery shop and we pulled my seat apart to recover my x2 seat in all blue with red stiching...but we were also lookin at reshaping the foam and makin the seat about 2 inchs higher buy just adding a layer of foam and glueing it all togather with are good glue and then shaping the foam with the grider..and wen i pulled my seat apart the staples did stick threw to far and they DID tear the foam aparty right were the staples went threw the plastic...ill post some pics on here of my seat in the process of getin worked on if i can get some....and wen its finished!

do that :div20: .there are to many wasted broken pro x seats out there, if they were fixed the right way they would last many years instead of hours.. Hope your seat turns out nice.. :beerchug:

My foam was a mess from the long staples as well. Did you say you shape the foam with a grinder? I was thinking of using an electric knife, but a Grinder would be better for shaping for sure.
ProX2man600
yes...you use a electric knife to cut the big chunks out and then the grinder with 80 grit on it for the finishing touchs....i just did a seat for a guy on a grass drag sled that wanted to sit 2 inches lower...soo my boss told me to reshape the seat to make him sit lower and then we redid the seat cover to go with the new foam design it looked great...

P.S i meant to say in my post before its gonna be all BLACK with red stiching not blue!

DIX any luck with that seat, I also live in NL and getting "unusual" stuff done down here can be challenging. I want to change my current seat, I have tried an X2 Seat not exactly what I am looking for, but still bettre than what I got. Almost orderd a Boss seat, but price keeps scaring me off, looks close to $800 to my door. I can pick up and X2 seat fairly cheap and thought about changing the profile. Have you tried anything yet?

Nothing yet. I have everything apart and sitting on top of the wood pile. But I havnt had time to get at it. Ive been spending my time getting a last few MX days in before it gets cold grinning-smiley-023.gif

I have a game plan in mind though, hopefully it comes out alright. I'm thinking of shaving the sides to make the seat slightly narrower, Im hoping this will give me some extra slack on the seat cover to add at least an inch to the top. Im not real concerned with adding too much height to the seat, as any foam you add will compress when sitting, and youd need a lot of extra foam to result in a full inch extra height while sitting. Im planning to concentrate more on stiffining the seat thats there so I dont sink into it like an arm chair. I figure this will result in better height gains in a seated position.

there is seat foam that hardly looses its height while compressed, i would swap the core and see what this gives, my seat dosent looses its height as the stock did after my litle makeover... :beerchug:
