MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To back up the statement Polaris builds “The World’s Toughest ATVs,” Polaris CEO Tom Tiller today challenged the CEOs of the other major ATV manufacturers to a live, head-to-head competition. “The Duel,” as stated in a letter to the other manufacturers’ CEOs, is to “settle, once-and-for-all, who really has the toughest ATVs.”

“Every manufacturer claims their product is tougher than the competition,” said Polaris CEO Tom Tiller. “Polaris ATVs are made by people who ride so we know what it takes to build a quad that can take on the toughest of tasks, both on the job and on the trail. This passion for power sports starts with me, and I’m ready to prove Polaris really does build the world’s toughest ATVs.”

In order to keep the contest fair, Pro-Motion Motorsports, LLC, the same company that builds and designs EnduroCross tracks, will be hired to build the track, purchase and certify the ATVs that will compete, officiate the event and declare the winner. EnduroCross is known in the motocross world as the “toughest indoor off-road race in America.”

“The Duel track will be our famous motocross track modified for the use of ATVs,” said Eric Peronnard of Pro-Motion Motorsports, LLC. “The track will be built, first and foremost, to test the ATVs’ capabilities rather than solely focusing on the drivers’ skill.”

ATV manufacturers Honda, Yamaha, Arctic Cat, Can-Am, Kawasaki and Suzuki CEOs have until October 20 to take Tiller up on his challenge. People can log onto www.polarisduel.com to explore details of the challenge, find updates on who has responded, post messages and interactively challenge their friends to a duel.

Searched for that websight, can't find anything???

let me get this strait.....the duel is in Vas Vegas and its in an indoor arena??????

LAME!
yamaha nytro 123
looks like polaris is gonna get whooped up on by the 450's from kawi, suzuki, yamaha, and honda, plus yamaha raptor 700. All polaris has is the outlaw which will get spanked on the track against 450's, and the overweight polaris which they tried making a good track bike....TRIED

I think the challenge is meant for durability, not speed. I know The military uses them, a recent multi-million contract with Polaris and the military happened a few months ago.
Octane
If its a MX track, Polaris is going to get their ass handed to them. The Predator/Outlaw cant take the abuse that a Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki 450 can. (not to mention the fact that the Polaris will be left in the dust due to the added weight)
Now, if we are talking utility quads, the MIGHT have a chance, but again, the weight is going to hurt them.
I say, "bring it on". Perhaps then all the BS claims by Polaris of being the "world's toughest ATV" will end. dunno.gif

Wait and see boys, wait and see. If they did think they had the worlds toughest atv they would not make the claim.
sledneck27
Wow, F'ing cool. I really dont think they are gonna run the Outlaw against the 450's, the Outlaw is a TRAIL machine, not a racer. This has to be for the 4x4's. Sounds like it'll be a fun competition, I wonder who is gonna puss out?

EDIT: The website works, theres video of Tiller on there he calls those other CEO's out hardcore, pretty sweet. BTW, by the sound of the challenge, he wants it to be CEO/Machine vs. CEO/Machine. Not just a competition between machines, but the CEO's too. www.polarisduel.com

EDITX2: Holy shit! You can even track the delivery status of the official challenge letters Tiller sent out to each CEO(arctic cat and Bomb got thiers today), he used FedEx, this is one of hte coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Apparently Tiller aint fucking around! I think he means to goad all of them into this comp.
polarispunk
LMFAO.....dudes, pay attention. this "duel" has nothing to do with the racers. its 4X4 durability and capability challenge.

if it was a racer challenge then zuki would clean house on a MX track

will you still be laughing when they puss out?

IMO in the big bore utility quads the outlander or kingquad will win. And they show a picture of that new fully supended sport quad, what will they be running that against? the only sport quad close to taht type of class is can-ams renegade and that looks to be an AMAZING quad.

IMO poo is getting in over their head, unless they plan on making the track to beat the crap out of the quads and see which breaks first because then polaris will be up there in contention.

The outlaw is not meant for the track , it's meant for the trail . It will obviously get whooped in speed by the other pure sport/track machines , but you can't go all day being confortable like you could on an outlaw .

Out of the utility quads it will be hard to beat the outlanders in all cc ranges . I also think the brutes and yamaha will do great too . all the others just don't have there stuff together . honda needs to come out with a 4x4 with more than 10" of ground clearance , the "king" quad has yet to be "king" of anything , arctic cats have never really been anything special , Polaris utilities are heavy as a car(exageration to get my point) .

I never had any problem trail riding my YFZ 450 all day long. dunno.gif Its a big risk on both sides. If someone answers Polaris' challenge and beats them, big time bragging rights and it makes Polaris look like an ass.
The manufacturers (even Yamaha) all make outrageous claims that are mostly full of BS, Polaris is no exception. I think this is nothing more than a big PR stunt. Polaris is losing ground in the ATV market and they know they have to do something to get some attention. IMO, the need to make a real race quad. A 400 pound Predator and 450 pound Outlaw aint gonna cut it. They need to come out with a 350 pound 450 and then hire a top-level pro rider who can win on it. Thats the only way they are ever going to get any respect.
We all know Polaris makes very capable utility quads and that they really changed the ATV industry with their auto tranny and AWD system. However, they are yet to prove that they can build a copetitive race quad. dunno.gif
It will be interesting to see what happens. I will be the first to laugh when Polaris gets punked out. :div20:

Show me that they are losing ground in sales. Sport quads count for very little in sales
and if they pull it off I will laugh at your yamaha loving ass all year long. :div20:

Look at GNCC and see how the Outlaw is doing. Next year it will be being doing even better now that it dropped 45 LBS, and gained the KTM motor. Not all quad racing is MX.
polarispunk
for anyone claiming the outlaw is top dog in the GNCC.....eat your heart out

you can get rear independent suspension for any of the 450's
dragonsquirl
Blah, Blah, Blah, just remember they are all good machines. What makes me laugh is try and pronounce the CEO's names from all the jap companies! :beerchug:

Polaris pulled the Outlaw from GNCC racing because they kept blowing out rear shocks. They went back to the Predator.
If the Outlaw was so great, why didnt Polaris win the GNCC championship this year? dunno.gif :smilielol:

I heard from a dealer that Yamaha declined.

That was Ballzy on Polaris's part. Course, Tiller has nothing to loose, at 32mil last year, if he gets fired, no big deal!

So who's laughing now? So where are all the big bad jap lovers now? dunno.gif Guess they were all scared!

Because its a first year machine and they have some work to do. It's completely undeniable that a fully independant rear suspension will allow you to travel faster, over rougher terrain, with more control, than a solid rear axle can.

Another reason is thier riders wanted to ride the predator and not an outlaw. In his contract he can pick whatever he wants to ride outlaw or predator. from what I hear he couldn't get used to the outlaw or didn't want to. But the outlaw is better for gncc type stuff.
