14thYear of SNOWMOBILE RACING, JUST WEST OF ROME
The T.C. Riders snowmobile club will be holding their 14th annual snowmobile grass drag races on Sunday, Oct. 1st. The annual club fundraiser will again be held just 3 miles east of Camden across from the parking area on Rt. 69, only 12 miles from Rome.
Admission to the race for spectators is still only $5.00, while children under 12 are admitted FREE with a paid adult admission. Hot-Pit Passes are an additional $10.00 per person for those that want to get as close to the action as possible on the racer’s side of the track.
Food and vendors are available on site, as well as club membership applications. There will be a chicken BBQ again at this year’s event with dinners available to go for those passing motorists wishing to stop for a meal-to-go.
Classes offered include Stock, Improved Stock, Pro-Stock, Modified, Youth, and the fan-favorite…Mini-Sled/120cc classes. Special classes run at this event include “multi-pipe Stock classes” in 600, 700, and 800 cc’s, where sleds with single pipes that have a significant weight advantage are not allowed to compete against the heavier, more horsepower sleds on this short course. Again this year, Vintage sleds (those older than 1986 models) will be racing against other vintage sleds in stock and modified form in 3 different cc classes. Racer entry fees are $20.00 per class with an additional $5.00 per class insurance fee. Pay-outs are 100% of the entry fees in each class based on the # of entries, plus bonuses in some classes. Racer registration is from 8 until 10:30 am, with racing action beginning at 11:00 am. The mini-sled classes run at around 1:00 pm. The races usually go on to around 5:00 pm each year.
This event has been a major fundraising event for the club over the past 13 years, with the race proceeds going towards the grooming expenses incurred on their 46 miles of snowmobile trails that they are responsible for in the towns of Camden, Florence, and Annsville. The club’s trail system connects wintertime snowmobile enthusiasts (riders) to other club’s trails that lead into Oswego & Lewis Counties as well as to Taberg trails and from there on to Rome in Oneida Co.
Club membership application will be available on-site and the discount voucher that gives paid club members a reduced NYS registration fee will be handed out at the event to new or renewing members. A 50/50 raffle, the club’s annual cash raffle, and other tickets of chance will be available at the event.
The TC Riders club runs a very racer-friendly program, knowing that experienced as well as the newer racers/teams want to have fun while trying to win money at these events. Come by and watch a bunch of club members pull off another successful snowmobile grass drag racing event that spectators and racers look forward to each fall!!
