Here is a map I created of trails I have ridden over the years at Lake of the Woods. (borders Minnesota/Manitoba/Ontario) With Garmin's limited track storage capabilities (most units 20 tracks or less) and the 25 or so tracks I recorded from the 800 miles of trail made it impossible to load all the trails into my GPSr. With GPSMapEdit and cGPSMapper software it is now possible to create your own custom maps for upload into Garmin GPSr units.
The map I created shows the trails plus:
gas pumps located around the lake that are open during the winter
Remote Customs Phones located at the Northwest Angle used for reporting in/out of country
US and Canada Customs locations at Baudette MN / Rainy River Ontario for reporting in/out of country
This map is for useres of Garmin's Mapsource as the attached file loads the map into Mapsource and you then select it for upload into your GPSr along with any other detailed Garmin maps you may have installed. The map I created has a transparent background so your units base map (or any detailed maps you upload along with the trail map) will show through. The map installer also creates an un-installer so you can delete the map from Mapsource by going to "Add and Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.
Since trail locations can and do change from time to time use this map ONLY as a guide with current local paper trail maps. Always check with locals for ice & trail conditions before riding. Some of the trails on the lake are staked and groomed and some aren't. Also some trails require trail passes. Check with locals for more information before riding.
Attached picture shows the trails that are included.
If you are interested in learning how to create your own custom maps Ryan at GPS SledMaps has an excellent guide on how to do it. He has created a mapset of Minnesota's trail system which is available on his website.
