My dad's buddies outlander 650 has had his dash go all flashy and have it say he's doing 40mph when he's stopped etc. so we brought it to the dealer, they did fixed it up good, and now a couple days later it's doig it again. Then, the other day I noticed that after going in very deep water or washing it off after a ride it the belt slips like a mother. So we took the CVT cover off and a huge puddle of water spills out. The gasket was missing a chick a couple inches big. Now our dealer couldn't be handling these situations any better, getting us the parts or the quads back very quickly. But we expeirienced impeccable reliability with our doo sleds, and expected the same with our can-ams but so far we have ridden them for 750 miles and have already had a bunch of problems.

Does anyone else experience this?

Yep dunno.gif :banghead:

My 04 outlander 400HO XT 4x4 had the same dash problem about 2 weeks ago , but mine stuck at 10mph and all the dash lights stayed on . The belt slipping WAS a problem but it hasnt happened in a long time . My dealer actually told us not to drive it in water/mud/snow and I was like WTF . So the quad has sat in the garage since we got it fixed and now the warranty is done too . I like the quad but if we're going to have to keep replacing and fixing things every few weeks , we might have to get rid of it dunno.gif :banghead:

mine is a simple fix, i just had to remove the CVT cover(very simple, just have to pull off the footpeg) and replace the part. Once that is fixed it will be fine.

My dads fords through water up to and even above the headlights, and makes it through almost ANY mud. They handle amazingly on trails. They are great machines, and the fixes are not that hard. I was just supridsed my can-am wasnt as reliable as my ski-doos have alway been.

This is by no means a bash:

I towed a guy out of the woods over labor day weekend with a brand new 800. He was pissed as this was the second time it broke down in the ONE week he had it with twenty two miles. First time the clutch completely locked up and the dealer fixed it in two days, and now he doesn't know what is wrong but he wants nothing to do with it.

When you take the cvt cover off run a garden hose over the top of the back cover, and check if water is leaking in through the back side of the cvt case. If so you will have to do like I did and take the clutches off and seal the back with high temp silicone.

So after I started my 04 400xt outlander today I noticed on the odometer where it tells you how many miles you have on and such it says FAIL so I know this cant be good im hoping the computer isnt going on it now that the warranty has ended two months ago. Although When I push the button to like clear your miles at the end of the day it shows the numbers and the FAIL goes away however we loaded on the truck and brought it home from the camp and hour drive later when I started it up on the truck FAIL was there again. Anyone have this problem or know whats wrong if its seriouse have to get if fixed before hunting season. In other words this weekend.

We haven't had any failures like that, our stuff is just minor pains in the ass.

I was thinking of using some slilicone on it, and the hose is how we proved it was slipping. When we washed our quads after a day of riding i had to put her at half throttle just to crawl into the garage. Next time we go up we will put the new gasket on her, i think that will do it because my dads and his buddies both run perfect through deep water and mud.

Don't get over worried over it, last year we got totally freaked out because my dads dash on his sled read "scale" it turns out that scale means that the reset button is stuck!

Yeh just dont want it to quit on us during hunting season at least scale is a better word then FAIL
