I was gonna say....wood. Wood makes a good campfire.

Pizza in a dutch oven....

1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef 1/2 medium red onion; diced
2 tsp. italian seasoning 3 Tbs. diced greeen bell pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder 3 Tbs. diced red bell pepper
salt and black pepper to taste 1 (8 oz.) can mushroom stems & pieces; drained
2 Tbs. olive oil 12 black olives; sliced
1 can crescent rolls 8 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese
1 jar pizza sauce 8 oz. shredded Mozzarella cheese

Heat a 12" Dutch oven using 18-20 briquettes bottom until hot. In a medium bowl add ground beef, italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper; mix together with your hands. Drop ground beef by small pieces into the hot Dutch oven and fry until brown. Remove browned beef from Dutch oven and wipe oven down with a paper towel.

Pour olive oil into Dutch oven and spread evenly over bottom of oven. Unroll the can of crescent rolls and line the bottom of the oven with a layer of flattened rolls. Spoon pizza sauce evenly over crescent rolls. Sprinkle evenly with seasoned ground beef, red onion, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, and top with Cheddar and Mozarella cheeses.

Cover and bake using 8-10 briquettes bottom and 16-18 briquettes top for 20-30 minutes until crust is browned on edges and cheese is bubbly.

Serves: 6-8

Paper Bag Eggs

Pre-cooked Bacon
Eggs
Salt and Pepper
Paper Lunch Bag
Stick
Directions:
Fold down paper bag three or four times. Place a green stick through folded paper. Place bacon in bottom of bag. Break open two eggs in bag. Add salt and pepper to taste. Swing bag gently over the top of open flame. Be careful not to let the bag stay over flame, keep it moving.

Comments:
Have Pop Tart's for back up in case bag catches on fire!

Seriously, Pretty much everything you can cook in a frying pan at home you can cook over a campfire, just have to watch it alot closer. We have a huge skillet and there is nothing like bacon and eggs cooked over a campfire.

a gallon of gas will work well. oh, you mean something to cook over the fire! my mistake, i thought you were looking to make a camp fire.

What I do alot is cube some steak, and put in a zip lock bag with marinade.

Once at the camp fire, simply slide the cubed steak unto a stick and cook. Always a group favorite after a few beers.

Pie iron Sandwiches. Basically a toasted sandwich of your choice made inside of the steel two sided sandwich irons you can get at a camping outfitter. We've done pizzas, hot ham n cheese, and cherry pie filling sandwiches that way. All very good.

Trash Can Turkey

full size garbage can....burn it in a fire to pop all the galvanizing off it prior
we reuse them over and over once thats done

11-12 lb Turkey set up on a small tripod of some sort...I use 4 tent stakes wrapped together at the top with floral wire
put 2 or 3 layers of tin foil on the ground to extend about 12-15" wider than top of can
salt/pepper bird and set in middle of foil with tripod stake in cavity holding it up similar to like a beer can chicken
put trash can over it upside down
put 1 large bag of charcoal up against/around the rim on the ground and a little on the top (which is actually the bottom of the can!)
put some fluid on it and let it rip
drink 6 beers while it cooks itself
90 minutes its done and golden brown and very juicy
You wont believe how great they come out..every time....nothing over 12 lbs !

When I was in highschool we went on a trip to Backbone State Park and for lunch we made foil meals in the fire

Foil Meals
Diced Potatos
Ground Beef
Diced Carrots
Onion
Butter
Cheese
Salt and Pepper
Alluminum foil

You take the alluminum foil coat with butter and then add beef, potatos, onions, and carrots....mix together and season to your liking. Top the mixture with some pieces of butter, then wrap the foil meal up so that the food is completely enclosed in the foil and then place onto hot coals.

The Foil meal needs to be watched and turned often. Every once in awhile you need to check it to see if the meat and vegetables are done or not and when they are done open up and add the cheese if you want to and then close to let the cheese melt..........

We usually have everyone make their own so that they are smaller and cook faster. Plus you can put whatever you want to in your own meal.

we also do this with fresh trout. basically the same idea.
fresh trout
bacon
fresh garlic
butter
salt
pepper
buck seasoning or montreal steak seasoning
onoin and sweet pepper (optional) (you can use what ever you like)
clean the trout, coat inside with butter, seasoning, garlic, and and veggies. wrap with bacon. rub some butter on tin foil and wrap it up. dig a little hole in you firepit so you can get hot coals on the bottom on the fish, and cover with more coals. have a beer and talk about the one that got away, turning once after about 10-15 minutes (depending on the size of the fish). serve with rice and enjoy, we always do.

Hell ya my absolute favorite! Hobo pies with pizza ingredients in them. Some people call them puggi pies, you have to get the cooker though, wal-mart or anyplace like that has them.
