I just bought a 2001 xc sp 600 and i was wondering if i should put a 136 on it and i was wondering how the people that did put them on liked them.
REDWEDGE600
I did and love it, very popular here

For hard play in the twisties, I would not recommend it. Anything else, and you'll likely love it.

A 136 does not like to get sideways much at all. Too much traction, makes the sled act/feel top heavy. Good control will require good carbides and/or a ton of ski weight dialed in (to avoid pushing caused by extra traction out back). So, like most everything else on a sled, they're a compromise. You need to decide where your priorities are going to be.

What about top-end? How about for drags 660 or 1000ft?

I'd say top end will depend a lot on the track you decide on. A lot of the newer designs only give away a couple of mph on top.

No experience on the drags, though the difference in traction available should be pretty obvious on a lot of surfaces.

Do it :div20:

i still ride twisty trails and this sled is better than any of the sleds i previously had. I ran with a 1.75 inch track on hard pack trials with 6" carbides and it still turned just fine. It doesnt make too much of a differance on the trails compared to the performance you get with off trail. Top end you will lose some, but if your like me you want bottom-mid range and dont care about how fast you get across the lake. My sled is also geared down and it will keep up with todays high HP sleds bottom to mid. Though, im only seeing top speeds of around 90 on GPS.

If your a trail rider the 136 works good but you do give up a little to a 121 sled if the trails are REALLY tight. Given the fact that you have a 2001 xc I would suggest that you get the polaris kit. THe 2001 sleds have a 1 year only cooling system that is marginal in hard pack or not even close if icey. The polaris kit comes with longer cooler strips , I have found that streaching a sled makes cooling issues worse due to the fact you will no longer have coolers at the snow flap. Tall tracks dont help cooling , they make it worse also....... 136 does deal with bombed out trails much nicer than a short sled.

best thing I ever did to my '01. I can still move it through the trails as good as when it was a 121. Off trail riding is a blast. I will be gearing it down slightly just for more fun factor, top speed is not that important to me.

Absolutely the best thing I've ever done!!

Heres a 128x1.25 Ripsaw I installed in my brothers xc last year. I got the track and 4in extensions from TracksUSA and it don't really need for a tunnel extention.

i have a extra pair of brand new 136" Polaris tunnel coolers if you go that route.

Me personally I did not notice any changes in cornering, of course maybe I need to quit riding like a sally :fluffy: and step it up

A 136" extension is like the best thing I did for my sled! Its a 99 XC but still, its a 136. This thing is so much fun and with the performance mods I have done, they just get better! It rides completely different than stock, and I actually got a XTRA 10 to ride "decent".

Didnt you do your 136"project this summer? Maybe not but i thought you had a few topics on doing it.
snowmobila06
im deffinitally puttin one on with a 1.25 predator track

I did mine over the winter with a 136x1.25 Predator. No idea how it rides yet, but I'm sure it'll be fine.
