Check the crank seals. Most likely they need to be replaced. Start the sled and spray a small amount of carb cleaner next to the PTO (clutch) crank seal. If RPM's go up, that seal is bad.
Check the MAG seal and see if there is evidence of oil leaking from the seal. If so, that seal is bad. If you are going to replace one seal, it would be wise to just replace both because of the age of the machine.
Check fuel lines for blockages and cracks.
I don't know if this sled had a remote fuel pump or if the fuel pump was part of the carb. If it is remote, check the impulse line for cracks. (line from crankcase to fuel pump).
A carb rebuild kit would most likely replace worn out jets, hardened seals and o-rings. Diaphrams and gaskets also probably need to be replaced
Check the exhaust for blockages. (mouse nests)
Check the air intake system for blockages. (mouse nests)
Good luck :div20: keep us posted
ps... take the CAP lock off

the very first thing to check is the compression. :beerchug:
pretty much everything haricat said. also have a look see at the reeds, cracked, worn or chiped petals can cause what you're discribing. when we "cleaned" the carb. did you make sure that all the little bleed holes were clear? were the pilots adjusted correctly?
