Last summer I bought a Triple Touring with a ZRT 600 power valve motor. From the get go it leaked a little oil out of the breather next to the exhaust exit on the belly pan. I thought after running it and blowing it out it would quit or only leak if I started it alot without riding it WOT. How often do these things need cleaning . Dose any body elese have this problem. Anyone have a set of heat shields for this engine.

Mine never leak, I clean mine 2 or 3 times a season 4,000 - 5,000 miles, never have any problems, i found brake fluid is the best cleaner for them IMO


When you say "heat shield for this engine" do you mean exaust heat shields?? if so i got a set with all the springs, straps and everything, i dont use them i think it runs better with out them, but thats just My opinion...

They do leak oil on the floor, I have had 3 power valve sleds and they all do a little, this is the norm

Ive never heard of this before . I think Im gonna have to look a little deeper into this. Im torn on adding the shields. I think its more to maintain a constant pipe temp. I do more top end riding than touring so they are getting good and hot. This thing is clutched and geared alot differently than my friends 2000 ZRT 600, I thought Cat intended this sled to be for PREFORMANCE Touring , Im not impressed with its H.O. nature but I might have issues with those valves.

Are they stuck??

Open the hood and when you start it look at the powervalve cables, they should only twitch once really quick (because the PV motor checks them and opens then shuts them real quick right on start up), if they twitch twice then they are stuck and need to be cleaned, cleaning them can be a pain, make sure you know what your doing because you can really screw things up...
