So my friend bought him self a 94 formula stx with a 583 last year. nothing but problems from the get go. after rebuilding the rear suspention, and the engine twice(done by a profestional and payed through the nose) the thing doesnt run very strong. i've heard theses engins are great and bulit proof? is that true? both of us have really only one major complaint about the machine. trying to get the thing started! is it hard to pull over!! is this normal?

They can be a real bugger to pull over! But they are a very strong bullet proof motor. Make sure the gas is good and that the carbs are clean. Another thing to look for is make sure the RAVE vales are clean and not seized. The chassis is not the best, but the motor should be awesome.

I have a 95 stx 583 with 10k on it. Been a very good sled. I have done regular maint on it and has been rock solid with no problems.

Yes, they are very hard to pull over, thank goodness mine has electric start.

I had my 98 MXZ 583 for two seasons and put just over 6000 trouble free miles. :fluffy:

My 96 Summit 583 is a work horse and runs very strong. I bought some newer sleds and didn't ride it for a long time. Needed to clean the carbs and that was it. I've never cleaned the RAVE, but its not that hard.

My 583 starter cord pulls really hard, and I'm really glad it has electric start.

Everytime I thought about selling it, I didn't because its a great sled even though its 10 years old. 100-105HP is not too shabby. But I'll be selling her this year because I got another sled on order and 5 sleds take up a lot of room.
