I went with the 07 600HO CFI switchback, 100 lbs. lighter, lighter on the wallet also. Not being as young as I once was, I won't miss the 15 more H.P. of the FST. 2 strokes are for sleds, 4 strokes are for trucks. :lol2: I was happy with my 05 600 switchback.

I was torn with the same decision last year between the 600 HO Switchback and the FST, I made a list of pros and cons that mattered most to me and this is what I came up with and led me to choosing the FST.

On the FST the only 2 things that really concerned me were the wieght and it being in it's 1st year of production. The warranty helped ease my mind on this being a 1st year sled and I knew there would always be ways to reduce the wieght.

The pros on the FST were great, no more changing jets or adding oil everytime you fill up, better gas mileage, quieter smoother running engine with a much longer running life and ofcourse more HP ecspecially at the higher elevations where the 2-strokes lose power but the 4-strokes stay pretty much the same.

I experienced this 1st hand on a trip to the Bighorns where sleds that pretty much ran with or close to my FST at normal elevations couldn't even touch me when we were up there, it was like they had totally different sleds.

I think when your going to spend this kind of money you want to get something that is going to last and in the end that was probably the biggest factor for me.
FST
I am not sure what your elevation is or if you plan to ride Mountains, but Crimson's point about HP at elevation is huge. My son has 05 600 Switch and loves it. Mileage trail riding in WI would be better on the 2 stroke unless the new ECU map makes a huge change to FST. Son run's 16 to 18 MPG on trail. My FST Classic runs 12 MPG. Life of the 4 stroke is why I switched to 4 stroke. $4000 to $5000 every 2 years to keep trading 2 strokes was just not in the budget. Oh ya the FST has balls to no end!!

This could only be asked by someone who has not driven a FST. The 2 smoke is naturally asperated, the FST is turbocharged and that alone makes a huge difference. So it is not the horse power, it is the torque and strong power band that simply is not there with a naturally asperated motor.

But this german built motor will be running circles around the 600 from the get go, but it will more importantly for me, be running and running long after the 600 is tired and looking for a barn to rest in.

THAT IS WHY I bought mine, and is why a grand or two more is like money in the bank. Imagine a horse and buggy, trotting along and a corvett races by. See the difference?? Yah, it is like apples to oranges unless you are still whallowing in 8 track tapes...then, never mind. :tease:

And when does age matter when it comes to buying sleds. I am way past the 50 year old and still roll with the best of them. Of course asprin is always handy at the end of the day.

I bought a 600ho last year for my wife. I'm going to buy her an FST this year because she didn't like the smell of exhaust coming from the 600. Plus it didn't have electric start.

I'm worried about the 100lbs being heavier but i think the leack of smell and the electric start will make up for it.

She won't notice the weight, but she will notice the lack of smell, and the quieter running motor and the key start in the dead of winter, and you probably will never have to buy her another sled.

Lots of good reasons to do it.

Yes but the tough decision is a FST IQ or FST IQ LX?

M-10 suspensions are unmatched, except perhaps by the M-12, which is not available in the machine. So....No brainer.

Thanks to everyone who repied. I am leaning toward the FST. My dealer has a 06 FST so I am going to see what kind of deal I can get. They supposedly removed old can (weghed 27 lbs) they weighed it and put a small muffler from I beleive a import vehicle on. Was told it sounds awesome.

Will keep everyone informed on when/what I buy.

Again thanks for everyones input it was greatly appreciated. :div20:
