this is what i think i will try. 74 gram weights, arctic orange/white drive(143/290),60/54 helix, red/white driven. i want my engagement as close to stock as possiable. what do ya think?.
Catmaster900
That set up will engage at 3700-3800 rpm and should be good for about 3-4 sleds ahead of the stock clutching.

I am working on building a 03 zr 900 with slp single pipe, v-force reeds, tpi lowboys and a dial-a-jet dually system. According to private dyno sheets i have seen, this should net about 165 hp. I am totally confused about what clutching i want to run. I was thinking about a 55 degree helex, i want good acceleration, but backshift is very important, this will be a ditch beater(on the gas,off the gas).

CATMASTER900 if you have any suggestion about what to do about weights, springs or even a different helix, I WOULD LOVE ANY INPUT. I am looking to run about 7500 rpm peak, and engagement stock or a little above. The motor makes power low so i want to use it.

I SAY AGAIN THAT I WOULD LOVE ANY INPUT ON THIS SETUP BUT MOSTLY CLUTCHING.

hay catmaster900 what would be the best way to lower engagement a little? maybe different drive spring or a little heavier weight? if i go with weights i will try to find a set with more mass around pin.
Catmaster900
SRX I can get the weights you need for that. I just did a 03 900 with these weights and they have a very agressive profile, while still keeping engagement around 37-3800rpm.

ArcticJoe where are you from, I have been thinking about a nice set up to make the 900 for ditch banging.
ARCTICJOE
CATMASTER, I am fron grand forks nd. I would like to add that i messed up when i said 7500 peak, it should be 7700 with the slp pipe.
Well see how this turns out

you will probably need to spin lighter than 74 gram weights, probably in the neighborhood of 71-71.5, springs and helix will make the difference for the set up your looking for. I may have a few suggestions for you there if you need.
ScottyR
I ran that exact setup last year and the 74s are too heavy for WFO runs. In a drag they work fine but the rpms will start falling back to 7000 over a long run. Grind them down to 72.5 and you will be good to go.
Catmaster900
If you want WFO runs rather than spin less weight I would change the helix angle to say 60/52 60/50, even try (usually doesnt work but) changing the secondary spring position. I like to spin as much weight as possible. Is that a piped 900 your loosing top end rpms with or stock?

I run a 62/54 with 80 gram weights. Spin it at 7500rpm. i_need_snow.gif

Catmaster,
we just got done putting the slp single pipe, v-force reeds, slp high flow external air intake. We are probably at about 1500ft. elevation. I installed 470/480 staggered jetting. It was about thirty degrees yesterday in low/sticky snow conditions. I was getting about 1175 degrees midrange and about 1200 degrees on the top, with only ten degrees difference between cylinders. Im looking for a little hotter temps, but it was a pretty warm day so not concerned there. On the stalker pro radar it would only pull 105mph at 7700 rpm full shift out with a new belt. The owner actually thought that it was slower than stock. I'm not surprised there though. Im still running stock clutching and that is where i am needing help.
I NEED HELP TRYING TO FIND MY CLUTCH SETUP. This will be a ditch banger, so backshift is important, but i need more pull from this thing. We have setup a single piped 2001 zr 800 d&ds cluth kit, that is pulling 82 grams. I dont remember the rest of the setup right now, but i was very impressed with that kit in particular.

I really need some recommendations here.
