I was wondering if anybody knew of some good lakes around Eagle River that people with some good running trail machines meet at to test their machines against each other?
Octane
I dunno about in Eagle River, but a good place to do that near ER would be in Saint Germain on the lake near the Mobil station. (I think its a Mobil station. If you are coming into St Germain from Eagle river its the first gas station on the right, its right next to a car wash).
Theres always a group of people that park there and drag race their trail sleds.

Little St. germain lake is a hot-spot for grudge racing. he trail that hits the lake is at the BP station across the street from the Thunderbird bar.

St. germain also holds a radar run as a fund raiser for the local club. 2 ice lanes, 1 hardpack

Just plan on doing it during the day now becuase of this insane speed limit BS.

Also Lake Minocqua is a grudge racers dream on weekends. At night it looks like a 12 lane super highway.

There is also radar runs in minocqua during our winter fest. all hardpack so everyone can compete.

but all this is coming to an end v!!ery soon, Ill give it 1 more year before our ignorant law makers shit all over this too!!

Agreed. Minocqua or Lt. St Germain Lake will be your best bet. Be careful though. Lots of moguls from everyone gunning when taking off.

Any given weekend there is serious iron floating around the lake in Minoqua by bosakis boat house.

Thats any given weekend all winter long, but you should be more likely to see them the 2nd Saturday of February because thats the weekend of Cruiserfest.

I have always seen the real heavy iron out on Li'l St. Germain lk, more than minocqua. lots of guys over there running turbo'd RX-1's and stuff like that on a daily basis.
Minocqua seems to be more of a low-budget amateur night type of crowd, but a much larger crowd by comparison.

Be careful, Minocqua PD, has started enforcing the 25 mph speed limit (24 hours a day) between the 2 bridges that cross the lake. Basically, if you can see the thirsty whale (slippery Whale) and or Bosacki's, it is 25 mph. it always has been 25, but just recently marked as such, and being enforced. HEAVILY!!!!

Water-crossing between Minocqua & Kawaga.... lakes is always a great spectator sport (for those that prefer to be on hard-water) and can be done or seen almost any day on Minocqua too. it's real busy during the radar runs though.

Shit, it sure is getting difficult waiting for the season to start!!! At least i can go out & kill stuff to eat starting this weekend.

YES THERE IS! Some serious iron. One big dude is that Nukelaloosh from this site... his old F9ss with the Spray. Ive seen a few 1210 Tcats, a few boosted Rx1's... and watch out for the IQ that runs there. Wow. Watch out for the Heckel boys outa Eagle River on their Turbo Attack. ALSO, be safe there... a lot of people have died around that bridge.

We run in from of Bonnies Lake side on Spirit lake, right outside of Three Lakes on Maple. Come to planting ground, my buddy has an oval plowed off for testing with our race sled.... also a drag strip, sometimes... also on Mud Lake by Sportsmans Service and the place to eat.

We take the race sled out on first ice and work on the hole shots of it.... word to the wise, if you see a 440 Twister... A Blue or Red one. Stay away from the Red and think twice with the Blue. The Red ate my F9ss alive...and the blue ran with my F7. Blue- 440 Stock, Red-440 Champ. Watch out vintage Eagle River, here we come! :div20:

Think snow! :div20:

As long as you start out in front of Albee's Yacht Club (my favorite place to eat up north) and head AWAY from the bridges during racing, you wont have any issues with Minacqua PD.

I heard through the grapevine that MPD will not be enforcing 55mph night time speed limits around that area AS LONG AS YOU HEAD AWAY FROM THE THIRSY WHALE AND SLOW DOWN WITHIN A REASONABLE RACING DISTANCE. I have also heard that the DNR will be taking it easy on racers out there as long as you aren't speeding in the 25 mph area. This is all from word of mouth, and I am not vouching for it, just what i heard from some guys at Albee's over the summer. I know Thirsty Whale and Albee's owners BOTH complained heavily about the enforcement around there last year being too harassing and they were cracking down WAY too much on the racers out there during races. They got pissed, and discussed it with the local DNR supervisors, and the Minacqua and/or Woodruff police department and were told that they would would do their best to only site those who were violating other laws not pertaining to racing out there. According to Albee's owner, too many wardens were pulling over pretty much anyone on a sled that left Thirsty Whale or Albee's after midnight, looking for drunks to arrest. After hard lobbying to relax a little, they say they wont be as bad out there this year unless you break the 25mph speed limit by Thirsty Whale.

Little Lake Germain is another story. Too many deaths out there due to excessive speed, including some last year blamed on racing and other speed-related causes. They say enforcement will be STEPPED-UP this year after dark and to expect HEAVY enforcement of the 55mph speed limit out there.

^Thats exactly why I dont ride after dark. Too many racer wannabes and drunks out on the trails.

So let me get this straight....... make a buck..... but people will be killed. Race at night, on a lake... STUPID.

Im going to be looking into this. :div20:

Thats the nortwoods business owners for ya.
I can remember many times when we had marginal snow for X-mas and New Year's and they opened the trails anyways so that the resort owners wouldnt have to refund people's deposits.

Let us know what you find.

I'm confused about the "make a buck...but people will be killed" comment.

Racing on Little Lake Germain at night is not a smart choice, too much traffic going every which direction. Racing by Albee's hasn't caused any serious accidents that I am aware of cause most traffic is going one of two ways only. You dont see alot of cross-traffic out there like I have seen on Little Germain.

The big thing is to make sure they race away from the Thirsty Whale, and SLOW DOWN when they are coming back, and need to check for sleds coming from the small area between the dock and the hwy 51 bridge. Alot of guys come screaming past that dock and through the bridge (which could easily cause a collision due to not being able to see someone on the other side of the dock or bridge until it's too late.)

That's just what I see.

---------------------------------------------------------- don't know why this didn't post seperate!!!!!

i was out there about 4 weekends last year and no- one was racing near thirsty whale at all --- you have to start next to the public dock-- across from the yaght club--- that is where the big guys hang out. --- i would not even consider racing near or in between bosaki's and the whale-- no way.

this year will be out there for sure during cruiser fest with a open mod 780 sno pro set up for lake racn'-- look out for me-- also with the 1k sno pro black--

I've spent my share of time in front of the Yacht club the past 7 years and it's fun - I run a Turbo XC800 - However, if you think you have something fast - the test is on Little St. Germain. Don't even bother jumping in the Bullring with less than 300+ on tap that's tuned well.

I've got to add spray to the turbo just to have any fun in the losers bracket there....

It used to be every weekend on Minocqua was good - Now, not so - It's hit and miss but probably more fun though since nobody has $30K stuck into a sled. The boys from little St. Germain do come over for cruiserfest too.

I'm pretty cautious and it seems perfectly safe to me at night in front of the Y club - The bridge lights things very well and the police have been great years past.
