Well after this years Arctic Man I decided I needed a long track. So I decided to build one out of my 03 rev.

First off the 03 revs came w/ a shorter chaincase :frech32: than the 04 and up revs.
To update to the 04+ chaincase I had to grind all the factory rivets off the footwells...NOT FUN what so ever.
To bad I dont have any pics of all the sparks.... but heres some pics of the reinstalled 04 footwells.
RATED-X
one of pics shows how much differance there is between 03s and newer revs. The others show how short my homemade beaver delete is after the extentions are installed.
HYFLYR
Looking good my friend.
RATED-X
My next problem is the drivers are really close to the rails now. Again the 03 rear suspention is different than the 04+ (which BRP moved back and shortened the rails). I am going to change the drivers to some Wahl bros 8 tooth 3.00 pitch extros, but their the same diameter as the stock 9 tooth intros :frech32: .

So thats where I am right now shorting the rails, and waiting on ordered parts, chaincase and drivers.

Thanks andrew, :div20: I have lots of practice w/ a jigsaw :smilielol:
HYFLYR
You have to cut the rail tips on that sucka. I know another guy that did the same thing and he just cut the plastic rail protectors and everything worked great. I tried to find a pic but i cant. If you go on dootalk.com there is a few threads on this subject. You got your work cut out but it looks like its going smoothly, dont forget to drink a few while your at it, it always helps.
joe231
you going to a 144"?
RATED-X
HYFLYER- The pic is in the ttabs mod shop post I have done ALOT of research....Thats why Im so far behind.LOL

JOE- I got a 141x15x2.25 cat attak 20 I know I know its a cat track but there just so good.

Your not going to think its so good when you get them on hardpack. Do some looking around on snowest, guys are trying to give them away because they suck on hardpack, the tips just fold over and lose any and all traction. Just my .02 but i thought i would tell you anyway.

Other than that they rock in the deep fluffy bottomless powder :div20:
polarispunk
hey man, you cant dis the cat tracks, im runnign an attack 20 136"x15"x2".......100 times better than those shit ass poo tracks
RATED-X
I have the 06 shorty for those hardpacked days. Im mainly doing the conversion to keep up w/ my buddys on mountain sleds, and my wife wouldnt let me buy a new summit.
HYFLYR
I hear ya guys, but if it were up to me i would be running a camoplast challenger instead.
RATED-X
Ill definatly keep that in mind thanks for the info.
MYTOYS
Looking nice, can't wait to see the finished product.
RATED-X
I had today off so I shortened the rails. The first couple pics are before. the last few are of the limiter strap relocation.
joe231
Sweet! nice work!
RATED-X
Next I made a template....I saw it once on Monster garage :div20: next pic shows how it fits in the end cap.

third pic is the hacked rail.
RATED-X
Next I hacked a fat 1/4" off the rail caps and hyfax, and had a beer. Pic 3 shows how much has been removed. pic 4 shows the finished hacking :drunk:
powderhound
Now if that is not custom modifications, I really don't know what is!
Lookin good I am going stop by sometime and see this myself.
Clayton
This may be a dumb questions, but what is the purpose of shortening the rails?
RATED-X
Clayton- I currently have 9 tooth introvert drivers that have a 7 inch diameter, Im installing 8 tooth extrovert drivers(non ratching) w/ a 7.5 inch diameter. With the current 9 tooth my rail tips hit the drivers cause I did a .75" drop and 5/8 roll on my chaincase. So w/ the new drivers the rails will hit the drivers every time i hit a bump. So I hacked the rail tips and am going to move the skid back 1/2-5/8" ..Just to be safe. Im kinda hard on my sleds. :banghead:

Powderhound- Stop by anytime.
RATED-X
Last night I moved the the suspention back just under an inch.
first I marked the location of the new hole and worked my way up to the correct size hole.
RATED-X
Heres a few pics of the finished job. Look at how much room i have between the rails and drivers. :div20: the new drivers are a .5'' larger than the one shown so I should have plenty of room.
Clayton
So I see why you clipped your rails...one more Q, what do you gain out of the larger drivers?
RATED-X
Actully Im going to smaller drivers. The diameter is larger on the 8 tooth only because it has fingers that go into the track windows.

The benefits of larger and smaller drivers=

Larger drivers actully reduce "rolling resistance" makes it easier to roll
Going to smaller drivers is similar to dropping 2 teeth on your top gear, lots of low end.
RATED-X
Since my last post heres what ive done. I took the homemade bever delete off.....Its a real shorty now. :smilielol: The drivers came in on thurs, heres a pic of the differance. They should be pressed on by mid next week. :div20: . Ive been BORED so I decided to port my track and clutch cover. Dont mean to toot my own horn ,but im real pleased w/ the results of clutch cover, and I polished a bit of the sled. Next episode should be assembly as soon as the chaincase arrives. Theres also a pic of the neglected 06/ dust collecter/ coat rack.
Clayton
Wow, looks good. Must be nice to be that bored. I'm hoping to find time to put in new plugs this year dunno.gif
RATED-X
Thanks, I wouldnt say its nice....but it makes me get shit done.
Clayton
Yeah, I hear that. Are you a sloper?
RATED-X
No...I wish ......Two weeks away from the wife that would be great. I build houses
Clayton
No building in the rain? Or is the Valley just slowing down?

p.s. I need a deck built if you know people who do side work in Anch.
RATED-X
Oh yeah we build in the rain, snow, wind.....Well all year. I do all my tinkering after work or on the weekend.....I have a hard time sitting on front of the TV for to long. I think stefcat is a carpenter also. What do you do?
Clayton
I'm a proj manager for a native construction company (UIC) that's based out of Barrow. I pretty much just work from Anchorage, but I go out to the villages once and a while for short visits.

I worked in the field before and during school, but I certainly wouldn't consider myself qualified to build a deck. I probably could, if that's all I had to do during the day, but my time is pretty limited with other projects. I bought a triplex in Anchorage last fall that is in so so shape, and it keeps me pretty busy with upkeep and minor remodeling tasks.

You think Stefcat does side work?
joe231
yeah I know steFcat can build decks, just don't know if he wants to dunno.gif :beerchug:
Clayton
Me either, why do you think I'm looking :drunk:
steFcat
Yeah, you should ask SteFcat if he builds decks.
joe231
Yeah I bet if you asked him he would tell you "yes" or "no" :frech32:

Don't believe everything you read on snowest...I ran that exact track last winter with no problems. IF you put it in the HC position the lugs eventually straighten out. Because of the 3.0" pitch it works much better in the pow than the challenger.

How is this going Donnie? Get it done yet?
RATED-X
Im gone for a few days killin mallards and my thread gets hijacked cause Clayton needs a deck dunno.gif :smilielol: .

Homeslice- Welcome to the site :div20: . Valley CC seems to think they need the whole sled to press on the drivers.... something about the aliginment :banghead: . So Im gonna give AMDS a call and see if they want the puzzle/sled also. I got the chaincase the night before I left....So i was up till 1 am installing it :beerchug:
joe231
So X, what is the latest on your build-up? Is she done yet?
RATED-X
Not even close.....The drivers that I ordered were to big and didnt allow enough track clearance. So i ordered 7 tooth drivers ...they arrived on thursday and I havent decided on where to take them to be pressed on. Valley CC charged me 89.00 for looking and tearing my sled apart. GGGGRRRRRRRR

However I did Install the suspention drop brackets...And fabbed up some super duty front mounts ill show everone once they get back from advanced powdercoating.

In all reality the 03 got put on hold when i recived my boss seat for the 06.,,,,Even got the super cool led tail/brakelight. Ive been doing shit to the 06 I should have done last year . like moving the ECM to a more protected spot ...Instead of up front above the pipe......Who knows which drunk ass canook decided to put it there.....MORONS
joe231
that seat looks nice!!!
RATED-X
Thanks...I did clean the sled, looks pretty dusty in those pics.
joe231
so...how goes it?? anything new? get your reeds yet?
RATED-X

Yep.. Just picked it up today(sled). Drivers are pressed on and I have the clearance I want. I got the reeds on tuesday and Installed today.

JOE- Give me a call when you would like to stop by. you still have my #s and know how to get here right? Id drop them off on my next trip anchorage, But that might not be for a week or two. Let me know
joe231
yeah I think I can remember how to get to your place, but you could pm me your number, not sure I still have it. Not in too big of a hurry, so let me know if you are heading this way. Thanks
RATED-X
Ok, now where back on track. I finally got the drivers installed The chaincase gears and chain are installed, I went w/ summit gearing 19/45 and a 74 pitch chain.

For the rear suspention I ordered a set of torsion spacers, whichallows you to use more of the rate your springs have. Heres a pic to show the differance between the stock and the ones I got from trik sled.

Next is a pic installed
RATED-X
I finally got the paint finished up, Thanks to P-hound for the hood and console and AK4LIFE for giving me tips on masking it off and making me finish it, and MTNSLD off snowest for telling me how to prep the panels before painting. :beerchug:

So wutcha think? dunno.gif
