the classes are pure stock, street stock, super stock, and mod.

i understand what pure stock is, but what exactly is the differences between street stock, and super stock?

^^^Super stock

The super stock is lighter, more powerful, and more purpose built then a streeter. Also they tend to be more expensive. If he plans to move up to a late model in the future, this is a VERY good class to start it.

Kindly remind him that if he is running WISSOTA rules, to be competitive, it is a VERY expensive hobby to have. :div20:

Go to the WISSOTA website for more specific rules.

If it were me, I'd get a super stock. :beerchug: <dirt track racing

he wants to start racing in 4 cylinder pure stock just because he has a compact car to use. the main dent in the wallet would be the roll cage and seat i would think. he wants me to start with him, which would be cool, but do to buying a new sled i dont have alot of money. i would start in pure stock though. we would just be racing in greenbush minnesota, and thats it. how much is a nopa membership? i just wanted to find a monte carlo or cutlass to start, again, i doubt it will happen:(. how much do you really think it would cost to race like 4-cylinderl, or pure stock. again, we are just looking into starting, maybe to get serious in the future.

Guess I'm not really sure about anything in NOSA or much about the 4-cylinder stuff. I would imagane you could build a 4-banger car for 1000 bucks or less.
jordan123
when you say 1000 is that with the car, or without? im thinking of just finding like a 200-300 dollar car, maybe im thinking too cheap? if my friend builds a roll cage in metals it should only cost about $1.25 a foot for tubing. im not to sure how much footage you would really use to make a rollcage?
racinfarmer
With the car, and with a professionally built roll cage. You should be able to get a roll cage for around 300 bucks. Look in Circle Track magazine and you should see the ones I'm talking about.
jordan123
that doesnt sound to bad at all. proffesionaly built is the way to go. is circle track magazine a actual magazine, or like a catalog for parts? if its a catalog whats a website i can order one from?
racinfarmer
You should be able to find the magazine at your local Wal-Mart or similar place, and flip through the ads in there. That is where I would start. Sorry I can't be more help.
jordan123
yeah, i just ordered a jegs catalog. they have 6-point kits for like 150 with some welding required which wont be an inconvenience at all. thanks for the help so far! do you race at all, or anything?

I sold out everything a few weeks ago. Just have the trailer left. Want to pay off the house faster, and its kind of selfish now that I have a wife to worry about me too.

yeah i understand how it goes. what class did you race then?
racinfarmer
125 shifter karts and I had a 250 superkart chassis that I was planning on racing a few times too.

There are a few pics of the 02 chassis I had. Don't have many on my computer right now.
jordan123
wow, those look crazy. seems pretty scary not having anything to protect your head though. did you ever flip one?
racinfarmer
My last race I ended with a stylish endo. If you fall out reasonably decent, you slide and roll along as you would if you biffed off a bike.
