I am getting a new boat and I am looking for some advice on a stereo am/fm/cd, it is just a fishing boat so I dont need to make the fish deaf. It needs to be waterproof

I see EBAY has some stuff from Pyle, Jenson and Dual?

I have used Pioneer tuners in my last 3 boats with no problems. Just the standard head unit not a marine version. If it is exposed directly to the outside you may want to check in to one of the stereo housings or covers.

Clarion makes a pretty good marine head unit.

Yup. I think Clairion makes the best marine head units. :div20:

I have had 3 clarion head units in the last 6 seasons in my Eliminator cat. The friggin cd player craps out from vibration and is worth as much to fix as just replace. I will not buy a 4th as the lates 2 season old one took a dive this summer. The only reason I bought clarions is the boat has a wired remote and it only works with their "marine" units(BS) nothing inside the one I took all apart made it "marine" except for the silicone grease all over everything. They charge twice as much for a "marine" unit than a non marine unti with the same features and they don't last any longer in the boat.

Another vote for Clarion. I have one that works well. Some of the biggest and best manufacturers use Clarion for standard equippment (Sea Ray, Boston Whaler, Baja etc.)

Buy a cheap stereo, and make sure to install it in a sealed mounting unit, I have a digital audio 67$ unit in my supra, and it out cranks just about everyones stereo, even the high dollar ones in the big buck ski boats, of course I have a sub , four fusion speakers and a 600 watt amp on it also. The mount I am talking about is a part # 548594 and that is in the westmarine.com. I realize that a mount like this takes up space but it will save you money in the long run from buying new stereo's every summer.

Here is another vote for the cheap stereo. I put a Sony car stereo in my old baja and ran it for 6 years with no problems, just needs to be in a waterproof mount. Sold the boat to my buddy and he still has the same one with no problems. same goes for speakers, buy speakers with poly cones and rubber surrounds for the speaker cone, coat wires and connections with dielectric grease and you are good to go. The pioneer 6X9 speakers i had in the baja outlasted the boxes, they are on the second boxes now.

Poly-Planer, got 4 season's on mine, stored outdoors 365 days a year. They only make marine stereo's, it's not a modified car stereo. Doesn't skip, remote works good, good reception.

We have great luck with JBL marine, we do mostly Pontoon boats, always exposed. We've only had problems with cd. We know install mp3 ports with all of outr installs and suggest staying away from cd's. Poly and clarion also good expensive units but with exposure go mp3. They also offer usb ports which has been popular.
