I just priced out the Polaris 600 HO CFI Switchback. The US MSRP price is $8,699.00US. Converted it would be $9,775.00 CAN.

The same machine is selling in Canada at a MSRP of $11,449.00CAN.

This is a difference of about $1,700.00CAN

Why would a person buy this machine in Canada? Are there any restrictions to purchasing the product across the line and bringing it back? Are there any duties that one would have to pay?

I understand that we will have to pay GST, but we pay that here anyway.

Comments?

Heard a rumour that there is about 60+ dealers accross the country organising some sort of protest to lower the Canadian prices............ :beerchug:

It's even more obvious when you compare used prices...even with exchange, tax, and RIV charge you can still save HUGE $ by buying in the US! I think we Canadians ask so much more for used sleds because we have/had to pay so much more initially!

I was into the local dealer. he advised that prices are gonna change. I asked him if Canadian prices were dropping or US going up and he said..hmmm..I think a little shift each way to obtain an even balance.
Can you say colusion???!!!

Five years ago, when exchange rate was at 48% i could save my America Friends $2000 Bucks on a sled. So the American dealers started CRYING and Bombadier raised the Canadian price buy $3000 dollars, So all the Guys went to A.T.V. riding

$9,775 add 13% for MB tax plus gas for picking up machine or delivery.

With the tax comes to $11,045.

Plus you can get a way better deal than $11,449 from a dealer if you have connections

Plus you create a good dealer - buyer relationship and will get better deals in the future.

I have looked into this and the savings are minimal unless you find something that is ridiculously cheap.
snow...where?
It is not just sleds.. It's the parts as well.

Take a look at new car pricing some time... it is even worse. A $40,000Cdn Nissan is only $25,000Usd. ??? How does that work.

Just FYI, you don't pay the whole 13%, you only pay the 7% GST.

Yes with tax it's $11,045.00 (based on MSRP) in CDN dollars "if" purchased from the U.S. but what snowrat is saying it's $11,449.00 CDN (MSRP) then you pay the tax on top of that = $12937.00, still a big difference.

snow...where,
we pay the PST when we buy the licence plate, there's no getting out of it so it's 13%. (GST is 6%, not 7).

$12937.00 (CDN MSRP w/tax)- $11045.00 (U.S MSRP in CDN dollars w/tax)= $1892.00 difference ...That's just using the number you guys have here.

Im sorry to say but unless i come into a lot of money , Im always going to buy used or new in the states. I saved $$$ on my viper and many Yamaha parts are anywere from 15% to 50% cheaper in the states.
You could save big time on new machines and if they are leftovers you could save from $1500 to $4500 on a new leftover 2006.
Not only are machines cheaper in the states but used ones have very few miles on them.

Get a US PO box address.

Been reading the posts and have my input as I speak from experience. The dealers are not allowed to sell cross border regardless what brand. The manufacturer tries to deter Canadians from cross border shopping by voiding the warranty at the border. Furthermore the dealer gets fined from the manufacturer for cross border selling.

Hyperthetically speaking if you have a contact in the US preferably out of state, have that person buy the sled to avoid the State taxes. You in turn buy the sled from that person. Guess what? The sled is now used, the dealer in turn did not break any rules in cross border selling and you now have warranty as you purchased a used sled, even though it has never seen snow.

The prices are ridicules here in Canada. I currently buy all my stuff in the US as the $ is in our favor.

P.S you pay the GST at the border and the PST at time of registration. Keep in mind there is a $206 RIV ( Registra of Import Vehicles ) fee.

Good luck
