jmp2204
meat scraps from a butcher shop, cooking oil, corn, donuts when we can get them.....these bears have all hit it within a day or two of each other , these are the first hits this year.....we poured 10 gallons of cooking oil on the ground in front of the bait....when a bear hits the bait and leaves they track oil all over he woods and other bears pick up the trail and follow it back to the bait ...that gets it going pretty quick...

You make it way to easy for them. You need to make it a little more difficult so the bait last for a while, then the will come back each evening and you don't need to rebait every day.

Very lucky to be alive!! he was found the next morning and the bear was dead 30 feet from the tent. Just a little reminder that bears kill people and are not to be fucked with . If you want to hunt bears leave the bow home and get a big fuckin gun. ( or knife LOL ) Remember black bears don't usually leave you until your dead. I guess polar bears leave ya alive to tell others not to fuck with them... bigun2.gif

What?trail?, You're sounding like you don't approve of hunting bear over bait. What's your method and how successful have you been?

An anti-hunting group tried to get bear baiting outlawed in Maine a couple years ago and it actually went to ballot. They lost and were run out of the state. Even people that don't hunt were educated enough to realize baiting is the ONLY WAY to be successful enough to keep the population in check.

You hunt with a bow and some people believe thats inhumane. Be careful of criticising others methods.

BEAR BAITING FACTS AND MYTHS

there those that use dogs (up here anyway.)i bowhunt only, it's quick and very affective...if he thinks it's childs play he should step up to the plate I'm only hunting large bears, but bringing others in that want to shoot any thing(bow only) .trust me w?t?when you get a big boar in at 15 yards with only a stick and string, you'll find it's not as easy as it looks knowing you are gonna be tracking him in a cedar swamp with only your bow :div20: HFS!
