Do not even think of buying a sled from these guys. After purchasing 3 brand new sleds from these guys along with being in their every week to buy more stuff, I get treated like garbage today and the last 6 months. I have heard many stories about McLaughlins customer service but today was too much.

Had my sled in last December for factory clutch update and adjusting the carbs. Next day I pick it up and go out riding, won't do over 65 mph. Bring it in and it turns out the power valves had been disconnected. They try and say I did it and after argueing with them they say they won't charge me. Well for the last 7 months I've been getting a bill, not only for them connecting the power valves again but they decided to go ahead and clean them for me and add that on there.

I've been in their 7 times talking to the guy that said he wasn't going to charge me, along with the manager and the accountant. Got one again today and brought it in. I get the accountant in the office and Mr. McLaughlin. Doing nothing but talking in a serious tone, she says she doesn't like my attitude, well I was extremely nice the first 7 times and it didn't do anything. After trying to explain to the clueless accountant who said the PV's weren't messed up because of them, they still try and charge me. I tell them I guess the $100 is worth more then a customer and the $8500+ I was going to spend their this year and Mr. McLaughlin himself says that's fine, they don't need the money!!! :frech32:

Obviously they could give a shit less about the customers, half the employees know me by name and I get along with, but guess the big guys have enough money.

Dude that is not a really good deal, Sounds like the were out to screw you all along. Are they stricktly a Cat dealer or what?
Top Gun

Cat sleds and atvs along with boats and campers.
polarispunk
same thing just happened to me over my brand new wheeler. after the second time of them telling me i owed them money to fix something that they left off i marched in their so fumming mad that i wouldnt even let them get a word in. they tried to get their shop laborers to drag me out.

the fact is that they just dont care....take them to court
goldenboy
Another story I just heard about them. They installed a 5th wheel setup on a brand new pickup for a guy that had just picked up a new camper from them. They somehow installed it wrong and it ended up destroying the guys cab and part of box along with significant damage to the camper.

McLaughlins I take it is refusing to pay for the damages and will be in court. Way to take responsibility.
NDMtnSledder
They let my brother walk out of there without a boat one day saying the price he had been quoted on the phone was wrong and that they couldn't make a deal work(we drove 90miles one way to get there thinking we were taking a boat home). They call back the next day with a new price which they wouldn't give us the day before and were off by only $300(this was on a $8000 boat and asked if we wanted to come back. Unfortunately in the end he ended up buying it from them cause he couldn't find anyone with a comparable deal on that style boat.

Also my F7 came off there showroom floor back in 03 as a dealer trade. When our mechanic was going through it again just checking it over as it had been prepped he found loose bolts and the Smart Valves they had updated they forgot to put the hose clamps back on.

Sorry to hear about your experience, it really shows why they are loosing so much ATV business to Gander Mtn probably even get better service at the big Chain Store then the actual dealer. Well i'm a little biased but if your looking for a new dealer you can call the one I do business with and also do some bookeeping for. It is Hwy13OneStopShop in Lamoure, ND, its not a big dealership but my boss is a real straight forward guy and won't mess around with you. Otherwise I've heard the Dealer out in Detroit Lakes is good I think its called DL RV and Marine.
F7144
Ditto to DL Marine. Nice guys. Also, my dad bought a used sled from Moorhead Marine and got super servce from them. I bought my F7 from Dakota Performance in Wishek and have had good luck with them and the sled! I just wish it would snow.
mlanglie
I had McLaughlin's work on tha carbs on my 99 ZR 600, after spending $355 I still have the same problem and they think that I should just replaces them. What the hell did I get for my money?...6 weeks without my sled.

Were you gonna get a MC?

Anyways Mclaughlins is a funny group of people. THey sell high dollar boats and sit there like your buying a 10 dollar toy they have no drive to sell there shit. I go in to there DL location oneday and ask them about price yada yada yada i was out of there in 10 minutes. Normally i can talke for atleast 30 minutes plus the peaople have no clue about what they are selling. I new more about the boat then he did.
NDMtnSledder
No he bought a bayliner I/O with the 4.6L and some other extras, it was his first boat . He'd love to get a MC or any type of wakeboard boat with a tower now but the price is insane on them.
live2hunt
I also have had poor customer service from McLaughlins. Trying to buy accessories for my sled and they acted as if I was asking them to hang the moon when I needed part numbers from them. I walked out without buying anything from them and haven't been in since.

In March I purchased my new M7 from DL RV and Marine in Detroit Lakes, MN. Brock was a great person to deal with and will get the majority of my Cat business as long as I live in Eastern ND. Do yourself a favor and ditch any dealer that will treat a customer that way....there are a lot of others out there that would appreciate your business.
goldenboy
I've heard a lot of good things about DL RV and Marine I think I'll be stopping out their this year.
bluebear
Talk to Brock at DL Marine, he'll take care of you. He also hangs out on snowest a ton so he's easy to get a hold of.

As for McLaughlins, the younger service guy there is a good guy, but I try to avoid going in there. My uncle has had a hell of a time trying to work out warranty work that they screwed up, ended up costing him a new track and some rear suspenion parts.
Snowcatnut
I will not go into the store unless I need something small. I go to Sauk Centre, Country Cat. I'm in West Fargo and will drive down there or have them ship what I need up here. I have had great luck with them. I was into DL Marine and didn't get helped after asking a couple of people about a sled. Might have been an off day. I am looking into dealing with Ada, MN, Norman County Imp. to see how it goes with them. They are a smaller dealer and not sure how they would do getting parts and stuff.

My 99 ZR 600 was in the shop from end of Jan to end of March waiting for a piston. I found out afterwards they didn't want to do the warrenty work. I was pissed, I had done most of my business in Hillsboro, ND but they had to give up their dealership.

If you don't spend about 100,000 a year at McLaughlins, you don't spend enough cash there. I wish I could buy their Cat Dealership from them and treat customers the way they should be treated.

Rick at the 1 stop shop is a pretty cool guy, bought my last truck from him.
CORMORANT
I might add a few comments about McLaughlins.

My first experience with them was when they were the new Arctic Cat dealer in 1995, they had just gotten the dealership away from the best motor sports store in Fargo, Wheels Inc. I had bought a new sled from Wheels that needed warranty work, Wheels no longer being the Cat dealer sent me to McLaughlins. I called them up told them I needed a new seal on the chain case and asked when I could bring the sled in. They said to bring it in next week and they would have the part and get it done the next day. Two weeks later the sled was still sitting in snow bank where I left it. I picked it up and took to to Seabergs in Detroit Lakes who fixed it in one day. I vowed that I would never go back, and I did not for ten years.

Ten years later I gave them another chance and bought an M7 from them. During the course of the year I had your typical Cat bog problem that could never be explained or repaired. I can forgive then somewhat for that being that they are at 900 feet with no place to test a sled and I am riding it at 8-10 thousand feet out West. I did have one issue in the spring when I noticed that a grease zerk was missing from the rear suspension and a new grease zerk would not screw in. The parts guy said he would order the part and to bring the sled in later that summer (I tried to get him to just give it to me so I could but it on but he would not do that). That summer I checked with the parts guy, he had to part but the people in service were too busy with campers and boats to get it done now, they said bring it in later in the fall. In October I brought it in and also pointed out that the Attack 20 track was having a issue with excess wear on the inside drive lugs. I was told that I was out of warranty and would have to pay the deductable for the 2nd year warranty. After I pointed out that the part had been ordered last spring they agreed not to charge me the deductable. They also told me that they would keep my sled inside untill the repair was done and call me when the work was done. A month goes by and I have heard nothing. I called and they said they cannot find the suspension part they ordered so they ordered another, no word on the track as they need to get approval from Cat on that. December now comes along and still no word from them, I give them another call and they say they are still waiting to hear from Cat on the track and bogging issues but the suspension is ready to go. Still no call from them just before Xmas so I pay them a visit. Again they say they are waiting to hear from Cat. I found my sled outside covered in snow, when I checked the suspension part they were supposed to replace the zerk is still missing! I blew a gasket and of course there is no one to talk to who would accept responsibility. I told them to order the part again and I would put it in myself. They still had no answer on the track so I just bought a new Maverick track from Tracks USA and installed it myself.

Later when I picked up the suspension part the owner told me he would give me a $400 credit on my account. The service manager was also told this and promised me a 3 seperate occations that it would be taken care of.

Needless to say the $400 credit never showed up, I paid my outstanding bill and snowchecked a new sled elsewhere.

If you are in the Fargo area and need a good dealer the only one I can recommend is the Polaris dealer Wheels Inc. If you want Cat you will have to go to HI 10 sports in Hawley or DL RV and Marine in Detroit Lakes, my preferance would be to see Brock at DL especially if you are a mountain rider. For Doo or Yamaha it is tough to beat Seabergs in Detroit Lakes.
Dak Cat
Dakota Cat Inc. is opening in ValleyCity 1st or 2nd week of October. New building is going up now. Owned and operated by a rider who also has had the service issues you guys are talking about in Fargo. Be treated with the respect you deserve. Pickup and delivery to Fargo and elsewhere can be arranged. Thanks, Wayne

Could you post a phone number or email address for them when they get started? I am trying to find someone that can put the update in my fuel tank quick as I may be taking with me to NV for the winter. :beerchug:

Ditto on Wheels being a good dealer, been VERY impressed thus far :div20: . I was the lot guy at Mcglaughlins for one winter part time during my layoff, it was interesting to say the least. They had one guy that really knew his shit but I don't think he works there anymore, one other guy was OK on sleds but thats about it. I don't think their management is helping out their service dept. much. Don't get me started on Moorhead Marine :frech32: :frech32: , all I'll say is that there were some business dealings their that weren't done the way they should have been and they lost my business because of it. I haven't stepped through their door since. Steve is ok but the parts guy is a jackass. I brought my REV to Gateway Sports in Grand Forks the last 2yrs I owned it, Ron up there seems to be an all right guy IMO.

They tried to screw me years ago... I guess I thought everyone knew they sucked!

McLaughlin's is the worst one word SUCKS. In Fargo stay out of the place. DL Marine & Hi 10 are great. Wright's in Hillsboro were the best.

Here's another one...

I know a guy who bought a new sled from them every year for 4-5 years straight. Took his sled in for service and when he went to pick it up the factory cover had disappeared. Rather than make it right they told him to take a walk.

He still buys a new sled almost every year, but hasn't been back since, all over a couple hundred $$ cover.

I've also heard a lot of good things about the dealerships surrounding fargo - hi-10 and others.

Another good place to check out is Forks Equipment up here in Grand Forks. I have known the guys up there for a good while and bought my Crossfire from them this past month. Deffinately a bunch of great people!!

They have the same number as the old dealer in jamestown so you can look it up on the ArcticCat site or in the phonebook and they are renting half of the building were the old dealership in Jamestown was as well.

Sounds just like Vallely in Bismarck. I went in looking at a new motorcycle last spring, cash in hand, and it took forever to get the attention of the sales jerks. I guess because I wasn't wearing my suit and tie, I wasn't worth their efforts? Piss poor. Needless to say, I went just down the street to Full Throttle Motorsports (Kawasaki dealer) and was more than happy with them and my new Vulcan.

Hey... this is my first post, someone told me about this thread and thought i'd join up.

Thanks for all the great praise guys, its good to hear we do somethings right sometimes instead of what we are doing wrong.

snowcatnut... i quoted your post below, sorry you had a bad experience at our store. If it was in the last couple years i apologize as we are the new owners... if it was before then i have an excuse and can say it wasnt under our management! I am only a one man show in the sales department come winter time and if i had stepped out or was with another customer thats possible too i guess. I'd like another chance to make it right and earn your business... if you'd like to setup a time to stop in and i'll make sure i'm around and open to go over anything you are interested in i'd be more then happy to.

Stop in and say hi, i'm usually always in the store unless i'm in cooke city breaking stuff.

Thanks again guys

Do not even think of buying a sled from these guys. After purchasing 3 brand new sleds from these guys along with being in their every week to buy more stuff, I get treated like garbage today and the last 6 months. I was at McLaughlin’s to look at a new 4 wheeler. They only had 4 set up, the one I wanted to see had to be built. They told me Monday to come back Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest and I would be able to see it. I came back Wednesday and no 4 wheeler. I talked to the same salesman and he said it would be ready sooner than later and that I should come back again on Friday. It is a good thing I live in town. Both Wheels and U-Motors both have a much better selection to look at and are much more friendly.

I will give the parts guys’ credit. They have always been very helpful and knowledgeable for me.

A few years back I bought my very first sled from those jokers, a 98 zr500. It was my first sled and i was just getting into the sport so I was not equipped with the knowledge that I am now. I bought it, brought it home, and when the first snow came the problems started. The sled had a very irregular idle and the track would not stop spinning. In addition to that I was constantly blowing headlights. Being the newbie that I was, I had no idea what the hell was going on. The sales person and the service manager personally guaranteed me that they had just gone through the sled. Well the carbs were not cleaned an the jets were plugged, that coulda been a bad one, and the voltage regulator what shot. In addition to all of this the, part that the hood hinges on still needed to be replaced from when I bought it 4 months earlier. They told me all of this would be free and low and behold that when I go to pick it up the present me with a couple hundred dollar invoice. I was polite and calm at first by the end there were words coming out of my mouth that would have made a sailor blush. Luckily I was able to meet NDmtnsledder over on snowmobile world and he helped me get my sled working right. Long story short they do not give a damn about their customers or the quality of service they give. If you want great people to work with go with the place in Lamoure or Country Cat in Sauk Centre.

The only stuff I get in there is the $2.00 shit that I can't afford to drive to Valley City to get. Wayne out there has been fantastic to deal with. He is always willing to help with questions on the phone and I am going to do as much business as I can out there. I walked thru McLaughlins a while ago and the sales man just sat in his chair and didn't even come talk to me, the parts guy tried harder to get me to trade in my Joker than anyone in the place.

I've had many dealings with McGlaughlins and live in Fargo/Moorhead. Needless to say I drive about two hours away to the Cat Dealer in Park Rapids, MN. Charlie's has an incredible crew that knows how to take care of snowmobilers. From the owner to the parts manager. They always take care of us and go out of there way to make sure things are right. I consider myself fanatical when it comes to sleds and their mechanic John is top notch and the only person I would want to have working on my sled. I just can't say enough about these guys. Case in point.... We had a sled go down late in the day and it was in the prime of the snowmobiling season. Most shops would tell you to come back tommorow and we'll see what we can do. Not these guys. They worked on the downed sled til nearly ten o'clock and got us out the door for the next day's ride. Where else do you find service like that? I have several other examples and would be glad to share if anyone is intersted. The long and short of it is go and talk to these guys. You won't be dissapointed.
